Celebrity cover single for hurting Haiti survivors
"Everybody hurts sometimes" and sometimes great tragedies bring forth tremendous charity. Several celebrity singers have joined together under Simon Cowell's direction to record a cover of REM's 1993 hit, "Everybody Hurts". The charity single will be available for download on February 7th and on CD the following day.
Parts of the song were recorded in London on Tuesday, while other artists put down their vocals in Los Angeles. Cowell says getting the single recorded quickly has been "an absolute priority for us all". The celebrity mix includes Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis, and Michael Bublé, alongside Jon Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, and Miley Cyrus. Also contributing are Take That, Mika, Westlife, James Morrison, Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams.
JLS singer Ortise Williams, who lost relatives in the January 12th earthquake said, "The tragedy is very close to my heart. It's great to be working with such talented artists all pulling together to make a difference through song."
R.E.M. is waiving all royalty fees and the British government will exempt tax from the single's sales. Proceeds will go to The Sun's Helping Haiti fund and the Disasters Emergency Committee to benefit the Haiti earthquake survivors. (The Silver Tongue)
