Mariah Carey may be pregnant, but she's keeping it a secret right now, according to MTV. Tweets her husband Nick Cannon, "If and when my wife is ready to make any announcements about private matters she will do it personally." If Mariah Carey is pregnant, why is this a secret?
Typically, when a celebrity gets knocked up, it's celebrated in the media. Her pregnancy is announced and she appears on the red carpet in a $10,000 maternity dress, complete with matching $5,000 shoes. She's glowing, in her perfectly applied makeup, and she's grinning like the Cheshire Cat. She claims she's the happiest she's ever been. That's the typical scenario. But not with Mariah Carey.
Her husband/publicist Nick Cannon has asked the public to respect their privacy and says Mariah will keep her private announcements private. Carey pulled out of Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf under doctor's orders and has kept her stomach hidden lately. Why the mystery? Is she doing the Juno thing and handing the baby over to someone after she gives birth?
Mariah Carey is not the hot diva she once was. Not confirming rumors about her pregnancy creates hype, which draws attention to the couple. A pregnancy is not something that you can hide for the entire nine months. Eventually, people will find out. And then the first question the media will have is, "Why did you keep your baby a secret?" This will cause further buzz and further attention.
