Mariah Carey surprises family

It might be another month before the holiday season kicks into full gear, but Mariah Carey is already in the mood to help out the less fortunate. On Monday, the songstress visited Baker High School in Baker, Florida, to announce the latest person receiving a revamped home from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition".

Dressed in a black ensemble and accompanied by the "Extreme Makeover" team, the singer was all smiles as she surprised cheerleading coach Finis Gaston with the news that he would be the recipient of the ABC show's generosity. The pop diva tweeted, "So amazing down here at Baker HS with Extreme Home makeover. Loving Ty, Micheal, Tracy, Johnny, all the kids at the school plus the Gaston family."

Heritage Homes of Mobile, Alabama, is expected to complete the new house while Gaston and his nieces and nephews head on a vacation to Disney World. The show airs December 12. Carey has been out of the public eye as pregnancy rumors have swirled around her. But that all may change with the November 2 release of her holiday album Merry Christmas II You. The first single from that record, "Oh Santa!", was released to iTunes last Tuesday.
