Me and Mariah "go back like babies and pacifiers" (74,042) by Badr from USA
Well, it's been a while since the last time I've posted something. I can see Mariah's been acting a bit erratic lately, but she's given us decades of great music and performances. I've personally truly cared for The Elusive Chanteuse and most of her records prior to The Emancipation of Mimi. That's why, throughout the years, I bought albums, singles, books, posters, so I could build a decent collection. I'm moving and have decided to sell part of my beloved collection. I have some rare and awesome items in mint condition. I'll be selling these items on eBay but wanted to share them with you guys first because you're fans. I am flexible with the prices for the people of this board. The list is available here and you can contact me at badyr_iv@outlook.com. Thank you Eric in advance for helping me spread the word.

"Heavenly (No ways tired/Can't Give up now)" (54,501) by Badr from USA
As virtually all Mariah gospel songs, I really like(d) this song so much. I think her voice sounds awesome. However, last week, while traveling, I listened to the song without any distraction. For some reason, I hadn't paid attention to a particular element of this song. Too bad I realized there's a guy saying "yeah, baby" every five seconds. This nonsense totally ruined the song for me. It kind of reminded me of those unnecessary JD parts in almost every song in E=MC2.

Nothing personal (53,475) by Badr from USA
It's definitely nothing personal, but I find it funny that all of a sudden people feel they have the knowledge and experience to criticize the voice of someone's who's been singing professionally for over a quarter of a century. Comments such as, "doing their best to work with what is left of her voice", are negativity disguised as constructive criticism.

Oh Mariah (49,607) by Badr from USA
I'm starting to think we are seeing Mariah's spectacular career decline. She keeps doing these performances that are seriously damaging her reputation as one of the finest singers in the world, not to mention the AI debacle. She could've taken some time off after the disappointing results she got with MIAM. Having said that, I don't think the Vegas residency is a feasible idea for two reasons. She clearly needs time to prepare her voice, and she might not be popular enough to validate so many consecutive shows. In that sense, I don't see why a new edition of #1's is necessary. Her last studio album didn't attract people, why would "another" compilation? Do people really care she scored 18 #1's? The partnership with L.A. Reid produced some of her best and most popular work today (TEOM), but let's not forget he was also behind the wheel during E=MC2 and MOAIA. With E=MC2, they dropped the ball with the single choices, whereas MOAIA is her weakest album so far. I'm not hating, simply stating the facts.

Mariah's weight (re: Shelly) and voice (re: Nikki) (48,266) by Badr from USA
I'm ok with Mariah's weight. At the end of the day, the important thing is that she's healthy. However, I don't think she fully embraces that figure, case in point the recent photoshoped pictures. She also wears tight clothes that, with a few extra pounds, are not that flattering. I'm not saying she should be extremely skinny, I admire Mariah for having her own conviction, but losing a few pounds would make her look even better. In regards to her voice, Nikki makes an excellent point. Her voice is delicate. I remember she once said that, during the Daydream tour, she could only do certain number of concerts per week, the rest of the time she would be in vocal rest. I wonder why she drastically changed that, by doing back to back performances without a break. Again, Mariah needs a break.

Mariah Carey (48,199) by Badr from USA
I start by pointing out the fact the album and the tour received international acclaim. MIAMTEC turned out to be one of the best collections she's released in years. Yet, it failed commercially, as no singles were properly released. At least 5 songs had potential to become hits, but nothing happened. This era has been/was characterized by misfortunate events: her fall, divorce, rumors, poor management, bad publicity, etc. Truth is her current career state is not too promising. She also let her personal life affect her career as her work had become lazy, repetitive, and uninspired, not all of it of course. It's also clear she's been having problems with her voice (she still has one of the best voices in the industry). Some people out there are counting her out, once again, but I'm sure she's capable of making another spectacular comeback. However, I highly doubt she's ready for it. I wish she makes people miss her and focus on her kids, deal with the divorce, fully recover from that fall, lose weight, and record another phenomenal album. Put all the pieces together one more time to prove herself. I'm also sure most people, including me, are getting tired of that "dahhling" diva attitude. We often forget she's Mariah freaking Carey who's had one of the most impressive careers in music history, wrote and recorded some of the most memorable songs of our generation, possesses a legendary voice, wrote iconic Christmas music and, yes, she's still got the looks. Why waste all that?

Mariah Carey... The Elusive Chanteuse (45,713) by Badr from USA
I am wondering if Mariah is doing it on purpose, being elusive. Perhaps being "elusive" is part of her strategy. In regards to that pop "singer" mocking Mariah, let's see where she is in 5 years. It's funny because she's not "young" for pop music standards.

USA Today article (45,293) by Badr from USA
"She's now pushing You Don't Know What to Do with rapper Wale (the two performed the song on Today in May), which has failed to chart." Come on, the single has just been released. I also hate Mariah and [censored] appear in the same article.

Darryle (45,247) by Badr from USA
Mariah is quoting the Bible, John 8:7. Then again, I think she mastered her ability as a songwriter with that song.

The Elusive Chanteuse (44,764) by Badr from USA
I have been listening to Mariah's Elusive Chanteuse album, and I'm enjoying it. I was just curious to know what your top 5 favorite songs are, and perhaps your least favorite one. My top 5 includes:
1. #Beautiful
2. One More Try
3. You Don't Know What to Do
4. Heavenly
5. Money
Least favorite song: "Supernatural" is simply cheesy, imho.

Harsh / nonsense article and hope (44,759) by Badr from USA
"Carey's last real hit album was 'The Emancipation of Mimi' in 2005." Whether we accept it or not, E=MC2 sold very well in its first week, was certified Diamond, and included a Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit and a top 20. Not too shabby. "But 'Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel' (2009) had no hit singles." Excuse me, but "Obsessed" picked at #7 and was certified Diamond. Mariah may not be as "hot" as in the 1990s, but she's been able to deliver. JD did somehow set things straight, although that implied blaming Mariah. JD also says there's a plan fot The Elusive Chanteuse. I wish Mariah would vindicate this album and herself.

The deluxe edition / Thirsty / mature (44,673) by Badr from USA
Someone here mentioned that it was a bright move to cancel Angels Advocate. I couldn't agree more. The recycled "remixes", or should I say "leftovers", sound cheap. Mary J. Blige should do a real duet with Mariah. It's A Wrap is not bad but not good either. The lyrics R. Kelly incorporated make no sense. Again, I'm disappointed "The Art of Letting Go" is not on the standard version. On a different subject, I agree with that person who said releasing "Thirsty" as a single isn't a good idea. She would be competing with countless talentless acts. "YDKWTD" is much more elaborate and age appropriate. For those who say she should sound mature, I believe "TAOLG" was the right direction. Perhaps she could try reaching the same audience Alicia Keys and John Legend have. Is it me or this is the most complicated era she's ever had? Right along Glitter.

Too bad (44,572) by Badr from USA
Sadly, Mariah's hit rock bottom, commercially speaking. What's the point of being a recording artist if you can't sell albums? I wonder if she's worried about her future in the industry. Unlike other acts whose popularity has diminished over the years, Mariah hasn't built a strong, solid fan base to buy records or concert tickets. I think the results MIAM got were evident. "You're Mine" was perhaps the biggest flop single she's ever had and no follow-up single was presented to support the album's debut. She hardly ever promotes her music internationally anymore. Her videos are, excuse me, lame, and her image is not appealing to the general public. I'm a fan and dislike it so much when she uses the word, "dahhling". She has the right to be "herself", but defending one's idiosyncrasy sometimes has a price. I stay positive and believe a hot single with a hot video can save this era and lead the way to other potential hits in the album. During MOAIA, I remember thinking there wasn't a potential hit that could prolong the album's success. This time, I think "YDKWTD", "Money", and "One More Try" are strong enough. I think most of us agree the album is great, it just comes down to marketing.

Mariah Mariah (44,541) by Badr from USA
I seriously think Mariah has a serious PR problem. She needs, IMHO, to get rid of that extravagant persona that people perceive and appear more down-to-earth. Her look is not youthful anymore. Mariah is not 21 anymore but is not 100 either. It's funny how the image she showcases on the album cover doesn't match the one she presents live. Major branding problem.

The Elusive Chanteuse (44,472) by Badr from USA
I know it might be a bit late to share my opinion on the new album. Well, I seriously believe it's by far her best effort since TEOM. It's actually up there with Music Box, Daydream, and Butterfly. While listening to the album for the first time, I was brought back in time. I felt as if I were listening to songs from the 90s ("Camouflage", "Faded"). Her voice is as powerful as ever, and so is her songwriting ability. I admire how she can sing low in one line and high in the next one. I think musically this album is a step forward. She dropped the typical musical arrangements and instruments and actually experimented with sounds. The Elusive Chanteuse also has some of the most emotional performances ("One More Try", "Cry."). I still don't understand why they picked what is in my opinion the weakest song in the album as the second single ("You're Mine"). I think "Thirsty" is not the best shot either. I can actually visualize "YDKWTD" or "Money" charting high. These songs sound effortlessly fresh and appealing. Some other remarkable moments are the intro to "Make it...." and "Heavenly". I wish "TAOLG" hadn't been demoted to a bonus track, it's one of her finest pieces of work ever, IMO. The only awkward moment is "Supernatural", but the climax of the song is good. Unfortunately, the CD's poor commercial performance was evident, due to "YM" and the limited promotion. I wish Mariah wakes up and fights to make this project another memorable era. The album deserves it.

Time to release a hot, inspired new single (43,182) by Badr from USA
It's been almost three months since she released the now official flop, "You're Mine". If we think about it, "You're Mine" is one of her biggest flops, ever, due to the importance of the single and the poor sales. I'm hoping she'll release a brand-new, hot, mid-tempo single just in time for the new album. She needs to give the general audience a reason to purchase this album. I think the album artwork is outstanding, although perhaps too photoshoped. I'm guessing she was trying to create a sense of fantasy. The title is original, although I sometimes feel she tries too hard. I'm not complaining about either element, though.

Sad to say, but... (43,006) by Badr from USA
I might sound too crude, but I guess there's a title that might, unfortunately, fully describe this era: "Mimi headed to commercial Disaster". I think there's something potentially destructive happening between Mariah, IDJ, and J.D.

Stepping up (42,061) by Badr from USA
I'm going to have to step up and present a solid argument to refute those negative comments about Mariah's so-called failed singles. She did not promote "Almost Home" and "The Art of Letting Go", and "Triumphant" was never fully released to radio. "#Beautiful" managed to make it to #15 and stay in the top 20 for several weeks. It was certified platinum, and topped the iTunes sales charts in over 30 countries. The fact it wasn't a top 10 hit in the U.S. does not make it a "flop". There are many important musicians whose greatest hits have never gone that far. It's important to recognize Mariah's achievement with that song. "You're Mine well, that song did flop miserably. The fact that people perceive these songs as flops is, after all, Mariah's management's fault. In regards to the mean comments about MC, I don't really care what any current poppy act has to say about Mariah. Let's see if people still consider their ridiculous attitudes cute when these "singers" are 40.

Is she lost? (41,850) by Badr from USA
I start by saying I've enjoyed every song Mariah's released since "Triumphant". She went out of her conform zone particularly with "#Beautiful" and "TAOLG". I applaud her for that. I have listened to "YM" many times. It's a good pop song, but a weak effort for a lead single. The concept and theme are a bit repetitive: "you're mine and we belong together". Vocally, she did an outstanding job, but musically and lyrically I expected more. The video is simply awkward: Mariah covering her boobs and the guy posing. Come on. I find Mariah's commercial approach off-key. This era, whether we accept it or not, is a mess, and it doesn't look too promising, after the abysmal results of "YM". I also don't understand why she keeps releasing so many songs/singles, most of which do not receive proper single treatment. The fact that many of these songs don't even chart is giving her a terrible reputation. I hope she releases solid, innovative R&B songs that also appeal to pop markets. "WBT" and "#Beautiful" had that multi-format appeal. Mariah can deliver hits. After all, it's Mariah Carey. She's got the talent, experience, and looks. There is an audience for her. John Legend, who clearly doesn't target bubble-gum pop lovers, is doing great on Billboard, after an outstanding Grammy performance. Mariah, on the other hand, maintains that "diva/Barbie" attitude that makes her look superficial and dull, which she is not. I hope she finds her way; she deserves success.

Is she really in control? (39,912) by Badr from USA
I have noticed that Mariah’s career lacks a sense of direction, pretty much since she left Sony. Back then, whether we like it or now, she was properly managed. TEOM era was the only exception, during this era, she would make smart moves, and her career seemed well coordinated and planned in terms of the product itself and promotion. I have heard a thousand times how she is “finally in control”. I wonder what that really means. Yes, she might be able to take part in the decision making process but, in many cases, it does not suffice. I believe she is still capable of repeating the success she’s enjoyed countless times in the past. She, however, needs someone to guide her and advised her, in terms of music and business. Based on the results of TAOLG, JD may not be fully qualified for such demanding position. Needless to say, MC is one of the most talented singers in the industry, having established herself as a true legend. Of course, the current music scene seems to be dominated by clownish exhibitionists and bubble-gum pop, then again, there is always an audience hungry for more. I’m disappointed because she is managing her career as if it was a joke. She’s postponed an album four times already, having released three/four singles. At this point, fans are not even sure TAOLG is a single or not. That tells us something. I couldn’t understand why she releases a song for an album that is not coming until next year. I hope she finds whatever it is she needs. She deserves success.

Re: Joachim Agerup, bravo (39,865) by Badr from USA
I couldn't have said it better. I believe we should be praising Mariah for releasing such a great song. She is, once again, doing something different. She could be releasing dance tracks featuring the hottest pop act in an attempt to remain popular, but she lets her voice do the job. I agree, the new song is simply one of the best songs she's released since she left Sony. Musically, it is even more ambitious than many of the #1's she had back in the day. All I know is that this is the reason I love MC.
