| MARIAH'S "LOVERBOY" CERTIFIED GOLD
Virgin Records America is proud to announce that the first single from Mariah Carey's label
debut, the Glitter soundtrack, has been certified gold. "Loverboy", from the soundtrack to
Mariah's film debut, has been officially certified gold by the Recording Industry Association
of America, in recognition of over 500,000 copies sold. The track peaked at Number Two on
the Billboard Hot 100 for the chart week ending July 27 when it sold over 180,000 singles.
It has since sold over half a million units, earning the singer her 18th gold single, and her
16th as a solo artist.
The next release from the Glitter soundtrack is "Don't Stop", the infectious dance track
featuring Mariah's powerful yet sultry vocals as well as an infectious rap by Mystikal. A video
for the "Don't Stop" was just shot by director Sanaa Hamri among the swamps of beautiful New
Orleans.
Mariah Carey's Glitter, her inaugural release for Virgin Records and the companion recording
to her new film, made an stellar bow two weeks ago week when it entered the Billboard Top
Soundtrack Chart at No. 1 for the week ending September 29, 2001. The album scanned 116,325
copies in its first week, locking in a firm debut atop the soundtrack chart, where it has since
remained.
The Glitter soundtrack album also notches a noteworthy debut on the Billboard Top 200 Albums
chart. The collection entered at Number 6, marking Mariah's eighth consecutive top ten album
debut, and her first hit album under her recent record-breaking contract with Virgin Music Group.
Such impressive entries were duplicated around the world as Carey's Glitter hit charts
internationally. The superstar entered the album charts at Number One in Greece, Korea (where
it is already certified gold), Singapore (double platinum), Taiwan, and Hong Kong (where it is
Number One on the HMV International chart), as well as Top Ten in Philippines (#3), Spain (#3,
gold), Canada (#4, platinum), France (#5, gold), Italy (#5), Germany (#7), United Kingdom (#10)
and Switzerland (#10).
