When we heard the WHL Calgary Hitmen - of the annual, awesome Teddy Bear Toss - had created a holiday music video featuring Mariah Carey's seminal classic "All I Want For Christmas Is You", we were skeptical. After all, the Belfast Giants had already created the definitive version of the "hockey players awkwardly lip-sync around the arena" video.
So we watched. And it was really cute, with the players dancing around and icing cookies together and hanging up hockey socks and the like. But then, much to our delight, things got weird. Not, like, "Too Many Cooks" weird, but weird enough that this Calgary Hitmen video skated right into our frozen hearts, you guys.
We're talking about a mascot firing a T-shirt cannon at a Christmas tree. We're talking about CGI effects that allow the players to ice fish on the rink and blow up a bunch of holiday human bowling pins. It's so odd!
Congrats to the Calgary Hitmen for subverting our expectations and creating a memorable holiday treat. And giving Tristen Nielsen a chance to play Rudolph. He seems really into it.
