Mariah takes a break from AI feud to release new track

Mariah Carey is becoming so well known for her waspish repartee with fellow American Idol judge Nicki Minaj, that we're all in danger of forgetting why she's on the judging panel in the first place. Luckily, she's about to remind us all - she's a singer, and she's got a new song out.

Today she released "Almost Home" in the US, the lead song from the soundtrack to new movie "Oz The Great And Powerful". The song is produced by Stargate, the team behind Rihanna and Katy Perry's biggest hits. Fuse.com billed it as a contender for "one of the greatest Disney songs ever sung by pop stars". According to MTV.com, the video for the song will be launched on the same day that the film hits U.S. cinemas on March 8.

This is Mariah's first musical outing since 2012's "Triumphant". Songwriter Bryan Michael Cox told MTV.com that Mariah "Was committed to making 'Almost Home' before she got pregnant. Then she got pregnant and took time off. Then after she came back, we started really vibing again and we picked up right where we left off. I just feel like between Jermaine Dupri, nyself and her, we came up with a few things that are a really solid body of work."

We think a baby is definitely a legitimate reason to take time off, but we're glad to have musical Mariah back.
