Mariah is stiff as a board in Hip Hop Honors performance

There are many things Mariah Carey is known for: Her diva attitude, her dog-whistle high notes and her love of all things relating to butterflies. One thing she is not known for is being a skilled, agile dancer.

So know that when I say that Mariah's lack of movement onstage at the 2017 VH1 Hip Hop Honors was strange, it's not because I had delusions that she was capable of pulling off a Janet Jackson-style "Rhythm Nation" routine. I just expected her to behave like someone with a pulse and a working musculoskeletal system. Instead, we got the mannequin challenge.

Mariah looked so uncomfortable onstage throughout the entire routine and she required the assistance of two male dancers to move anything more than an inch. And when she was supposed to interact with Ma$e during his verse, she looked like she was clenching her ass cheeks and suffering from a serious case of bubble guts the entire time. Ma$e, on the other hand, was bubbly and bounced around during his performance like Tigger. Mariah: She gave him nothing but her best Eeyore and had a face that screamed, "Why am I here right now?"

Mariah's former choreographer Anthony Burrell admitted in recent interviews that Mariah's laziness onstage is something that he dealt with when he worked with her. He also said she performs with "no f*cks given" and called her recent performances "lackluster". So we already know what time it is, especially after we witnessed that horrendous New Year's Eve performance.

But Twitter still couldn't help but notice, mock and highlight just how terrible and awkward Mariah was on VH1 Hip Hop Honors. I'm gonna need Mariah to do a little bit better than this, please. Either that or put away all of the damn dancers and just pull an Adele. But you can't have all of these people bustin' a move and breakin' a sweat, twirling around you while you lazily gaze at them and sigh, Mimi.

If Adele, Aretha, and a lot of these neo-soul artists are stiff on stage, why is Mimi expected to dance on stage? Last time I checked, she was on tour and doing these other projects when most of her peers were kicking back. As long she could sing, then that's the only thing that should matter. I am happy that she showed up instead of being on Skype. If the writer expected Mariah to pull a Janet Jackson-like routine, then he or she is truly a dumbass. .

Adele, Aretha, and a lot of these other neo-soul artists get a pass on being stiff, because they actually sing. Mariah gets called out for her stiffness because she's also heavily lip-syncing. And if you can't move your hips or your lips, then you should probably just take a seat in the audience and let other artists who do move their hips and lips honor you.

It's not about the dancing, nobody expects her to move like Janet Jackson. Stop pretending that's what people want from her. Do you really think she looks like she's enjoying herself on stage while pretending to sing the vocal climaxes of her songs? No. Stop it. We just want her to move. Lift her legs and walk on her own and not look like she's so over everything. She always look like a furniture being moved around the stage by her dancers. Why even have dancers if you're not going to put an effort to move a bit. Remember MSG? She didn't dance in it, but she looked like she was enjoying herself - moving around the stage and waving her arms and shoulders. She was fun. Is it because she's wearing 10" heels? Then don't wear them. She looks like a medicated sofa being propped around a huge apartment.

I love Mariah Carey with all my heart and she's my forever idol, but I will be the first to admit her performances are very bleack. You can tell she doesn't even want to be there. Personally, I think she needs to cut back on her drinking because it's almost like she's just standing there drunk. She's not 24 anymore and her outfits need to change. I love her music and I listen to her every day. I'm a forever lamb, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to sit here and applaud all the BS she's doing lately.

Looks like you all forget Mariah was 25 years old when the MSG, and now she is 47, and with a few more pounds and years, you all like criticize her a lot. Do you know she is human right? She can't stay like in the 90s forever people.

She is neither 80 years old having a cane or obese. She is chubby but not fat, she is not even 50 yet. Surely she can do one, two, three steps. The annoying thing is that she looked great, the stage was nice with the dancers and the theme, loved the jet ski and the helicopter props (which were hardly used), she sang well even if it was pre recorded or truly live or with some lippy, it was good nonetheless, but all that was overshadowed but her standing, being held and walked around few steps. All the headlines and the fans noticed that. I hope she takes this as a wake up call and we can move on to better times. I'm hoping that new music might eclipse all these underwhelming performances. I thought that while somewhat weak "Infamous" sounded good, "I don't" had something going on for it, very catchy, would have loved a dark video like that photoshoot she did where she sits in the throne with the masked men, the video we got was meh, and her last mix with Montana was pleasant. I believe she still can produce and write good tunes, I don't think she is very invested in it, her life right now seems weird, Tanaka, the kids here and there, that clan of troll looking women, what up.
