"All I Want For Christmas" returns to the U.K. top 10

Despite tough competition and new tracks from some of the most popular artists in the U.K. music scene, Ariana Grande holds onto the No. 1 spot with her current single "Thank U, Next". The song, which debuted at the top over a month ago, has now ruled for five weeks.

Coming up right behind Grande's latest U.K. No. 1 is newcomer Ava Max, who sees her breakout smash "Sweet But Psycho" lift to the runner-up slot. The cut is her first true hit, and if Grande will relent in the coming weeks, it might go all the way to the peak. Behind Grande and Ava Max is another powerful woman, Halsey, whose single "Without Me" crawls to No. 3, which now stands as its high point.

The highest-ranking debut on the chart this week comes from recent X Factor winner Dalton Harris, whose first proper single "The Power of Love" begins its time on the chart at No. 4. The song benefits not only from the swell of media attention Harris is currently receiving, but from a feature by James Arthur, who is himself already a star. "The Power of Love" is Harris' first hit and Arthur's fifth top 10 in the country.

Down from third to fifth is Jess Glynne's "Thursday", which is the most recent song promoted as a single from her second No. 1 album Always In Between.

Behind that new poppy tune comes a very, very familiar smash that people all around the world simply can't get enough of: Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas is You". The tune makes its annual return to the top 10, bolting from just inside the Top 40 (No. 34) all the way to No. 6. As is the case in the U.S., it still has plenty of time and a lot of momentum behind it, and chances are "All I Want For Christmas is You" will rise even higher before January rolls around.

It appears that any chance of seeing "Woman Like Me" own the singles chart may be over for Little Mix and Nicki Minaj, as the single falls once again, this time settling at No. 7. It recently peaked at No. 2, but it couldn't quite break through and give the five women another leader.

The last three positions inside the top 10 are filled by tracks that are new to the region, refreshing the area in a manner that hasn't happened in some time.

Crooner James Arthur doubles up on his placements in the top 10 with another hit, "Rewrite The Stars", which is taken from the reimagined Greatest Showman album. The song, which also features pop singer Anne-Marie, rockets from No. 17 to No. 8, giving both artists another top 10. For Arthur, this is his sixth, while for Marie, it's her fifth.

Rappers 6ix9ine and Tory Lanez see their new cut "Kika" explode in popularity as it rises from No. 38 all the way to No. 9 in one week. The song, which wasn't released as a single but which is featured on his newly-released debut album Dummy Boy, is the first U.K. top 10 for both artists.

The last position inside the top 10 this week is owned by a brand new track, one which could become a smash in the coming weeks. Mark Ronson's new single "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart", which features vocals by Miley Cyrus, opens at No. 10, proving it to be the rare song that's immediately liked well enough to launch within the uppermost area. It's not clear yet if the single is attached to any longer project, but it's likely the first taste of a full-length, which may be coming soon. "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" is Ronson's sixth top 10 (as an artist, but he's scored many more as a songwriter and producer) and Cyrus' fourth.
