Mariah Carey is the new face of Walkers Crisps

When you are a big-name star, bagging an endorsement deal can earn you a packet. And that is exactly what Mariah Carey is planning on doing with Walkers Crisps.

I can reveal the superstar is being lined up to take over from the Spice Girls as the new face of the snack brand, in a deal worth £9 million. That is enough to buy her about 13 million bags of Cheese & Onion, if you are into that kind of thing.

An insider said: "Having the Spice Girls on board was a real coup for Walkers in terms of names they'd be able to work with in future. They approached Mariah earlier this year and it's all going through now."

"Her people have the contract and are just signing off the details, including what Mariah will and won't do for the brand. As part of the campaign, her face is going to appear on 50 million packets of crisps."

"Walkers are hoping to tie in Mariah's involvement with their big advertising campaign during the festive season, which they think could work really well with her hit All I Want For Christmas Is You." Shouldn't that be Crispmas?

The source added: "This campaign will be really pushed across social media as well. They're hoping that, like the Spice Girls, Mariah will make it a huge hit and will go viral, along with flogging loads of crisps." It's certainly a step up from Gary Lineker.

Mariah, who is worth an estimated £244 million, has previously appeared in adverts for Macy's - alongside Donald Trump - and for weight-loss firm Jenny.

And don't forget her mega-money deals with IT giant Intel and - my favourite - Hostelworld, for whom Mariah worked to flog low-cost rooms. Who knew divas loved to stay in student-style digs?
