From the vault: Mariah Carey - "Butterfly"

This week's From The Vault pays homage to one of the greatest albums of the contemporary era - Mariah Carey's "Butterfly" ahead of its 25th anniversary. Today's pick is one of its anchoring singles, "My All".

Rolled out as the fifth single from Mimi's sixth studio LP, the soaring ballad was both written and produced by the songbird alongside her longtime collaborator Walter Afanasieff.

Lyrically, the track tackles the topic of deep infatuation and the feeling of wanting to risk it all for a night of passion with "the one". Vocally, as is trademark, Carey took flight and launched into melismatic magnificence.

The masses were magnetized and lifted the song to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top 10 of tallies across the globe - including #4 on the Official UK Singles Chart.

Shot in Puerto Rico, the song's monochrome video was lensed by Herb Ritts and showcased the diva enchanted by her love interest. A literal take, of sorts, on the cut's lyrical narrative.

Beyond her powerful pipes, one of Carey's main attraction talents is her ability to lasso listeners with compelling storytelling and vivid visuals.

As the 25th anniversary of "Butterfly" approaches, we can't but be filled with all sorts of appreciation for this legendary chanteuse.
