Mariah Carey sings Jersey-less

No one was more surprised or disappointed to see Mariah Carey's spaghetti strap, blue evening gown as she sang the National Anthem during Sunday's Pre-game Superbowl Celebration than Lois Nycz, co-owner of Shaffer Manufacturing Inc. of Neosho. Shaffer was asked by Reebok to make a studded jersey to be worn by Mariah Carey, they were told, for her performance of the National Anthem for Sunday's Superbowl match with the St. Louis Rams and New England Patriots.

Not only did the Patriots upset the Rams, 20-17, but as a further upset, Mariah didn't wear the jersey made by Shaffer Inc. either. "I know I feel like a fool," said Lois Nycz. "Maybe she preferred blue." Nycz said the jersey they made, one of seven for the singer, had 2,000 rhinestones on it that had to be hand glued in place. At $160 apiece, Reebok paid $1,160 for the jersey's that, in the end, were nowhere to be seen during any part of the Superbowl.

"We watched the rest of the game, thinking maybe she'd perform again and perhaps wear it during another performance," said Nycz. "She didn't. We'll certainly be having a conversation with the person who placed the order from Reebok, but yeah know, I guess it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind."
