Murder Inc boss: J.Lo used Mariah's song

A Mariah Carey and Ja Rule remix was dumped after Jennifer Lopez released a similar track with the rapper - according to music svengali Irv Gotti. Irv says Mariah's ex-husband Sony Music boss Tommy Mottola called up Irv's production company Murder Inc to do a remix of J.Lo's track "I'm Real" with the hip-hop star, just as Irv had done with Mariah's song Loverboy for her film Glitter one month earlier.

Gotti explains, "Ja wrote a song with him and Mariah singing back and forth on the title track. I get a call from Tommy Mottola, who I have a great relationship with, and he's like, 'I want you to do this remix for Jennifer Lopez. I want you to put Ja on the record.' Immediately I knew what he was doing because we just finished the Mariah record."

As Mariah's film was months away from completion, "Loverboy" was far from release, during which time J.Lo and Ja released their mega-hit collaboration. Publishers of Yellow Magic Orchestra's Firecracker confirmed that Mariah was the first person to ever contact them about sampling the track, adding "Then, within a month, Jennifer Lopez also called for it."

Reports from the set of Glitter, which was distributed by Sony Music's sister company Sony Pictures, claim Tommy was viewing footage of the movie during filming. The XXL magazine reporter who interviewed Irv, says the rap honcho claims Mottola told him he required the J.Lo track in "the same style" as Mariah's, saying, ""It was exactly the same style - with Mariah and Ja talking back and forth, just the way he does with Jennifer on I'm Real."

Reports claim Mariah was forced to sample Cameo's Candy for "Loverboy", after hearing J.Lo and Ja's track. Loverboy flopped when it was released last summer.
