Jam and Lewis: "Mariah's getting rest"
Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, TLC: These are just a few of the acts that the blue-chip production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis is scheduled to work with this year. On their latest work with Carey, the two confirmed she was getting rest that was greatly needed.
"We were working about two-and-a-half weeks ago, and we came up with a song that everybody was feeling. And normally she would wait around for us to cut it, and she would do a demo vocal. But this time, she said, 'Do you want me to stay?' And we said, 'No, we can do it tomorrow.' And she said, 'Good, then I'm going to go home to go to bed.' And I thought, 'Great!' That's something I've never heard her say before," Jam commented.
The famed duo was honored with a special award June 6th during the 15th Annual Essence Awards. Their long time partner, Janet Jackson was also presented with a special award the same night - entertainer of the year. "It's icing on the cake for her to be honored in the same year we are. Because the words are just words and the music is just music - it takes a great artist to elevate the work and touch people," they concluded.
