Mariah speaks on new single
... and her recovery from a nervous breakdown. The singer has signed a new deal with Def Jam Records after Virgin dropped her from the label after her last album, Glitter, failed to justify the £80m signing on fee. Carey describes the process as a "healing process". "I've spent the last couple of months in Capri," she said. "I just totally immersed myself in the writing process because I write all my songs. I basically lived in the studio upstairs in this little apartment in Capri. It gave me a chance to be reflective and focus on the music. I realised that it's not that deep to get so stressed out over. It's only the music business. The things that really matter are human beings, people, family and friends - real friends. It's great to have success but I could retired tomorrow and I would already have achieved far more than my goals ever were."
The new single is a ballad which Carey describes as "not dissimilar to songs like Hero or Vision Of Love". "When people heard the song they said: 'This has got to be your first single.' People will probably associate it with my battle and of course everything you write comes from within you somewhere. But I always feel that it's important to inspire other people who may be going through something - whether it's losing a loved one or going through whatever. I just try to instill in people the fact - which is what I believe - that if you firmly believe and you have enough faith you can get through anything." (World Pop) Many thanks to MariahC.nu.
