Mariah's new move?
Mariah Carey, on the rebound from a very public nervous breakdown last year, may be thinking of selling her Tribeca penthouse, according to a New York Post report. The diva is said to be inviting brokers into her home and quizzing them on the value of the place. Mariah bought the penthouse in July 1999 for an estimated $9 million. (The price included two apartments - the penthouse duplex and a single-floor apartment below the penthouse, which were renovated into one large apartment.) The property includes four bedrooms, four and a half baths, a gourmet kitchen and panoramic views.
Although Carey took a brief hiatus from music after she reportedly had a breakdown in a SoHo hotel, but it didn't seem to take her long to get back in the swing of things. Most recently, she has been seen around New York shooting a new music video; she has a new single, "Through the Rain", and an album coming out in December. Despite the burnout (when EMI paid her about $28 million to get out of a contract that would have been worth about $100 million), Mariah seems to be raking in the cash. She subsequently scored a three-record contract with Universal and also shot up to the seventh-most powerful celebrity on Forbes Top 100 Celebrity list, earning about $58 million last year.
