"Today" strikes chord with Mac and Mariah

Fleetwood Mac, Sting and Mariah Carey are among the big-name musical acts booked for the "Today" show's annual concert series. The "Toyota Concert Series on Today" series kicks off this Friday with the recently reunited Fleetwood Mac performing live outside the show's studios in the plaza at 30 Rock.

Carey appears on May 9. Other big names include Annie Lennox (June 13); Ashanti (July 18); Shania Twain (Aug. 1); Michelle Branch (Sept. 26); Amy Grant (Aug. 22); and R.E.M. (Oct. 3). All shows will take place on Fridays (7-9 a.m./Ch. 4), except for the Sting concert, which will be on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Viewing is on a first-come, first-served basis outside "Today's" street-level studio at 49th and Rockefeller Plaza. This is the eighth consecutive year that "Today" has featured its summertime concert series, an event that's been adopted by rival morning shows "Good Morning America", which has concerts outside Lincoln Center, and CBS' "The Early Show".

Past performers on the "Today" concert series have included Ricky Martin, Britney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, The Backstreet Boys and Jennifer "J.Lo" Lopez.
