Could "Don't Forget" be the next #1?

Don't look now but Mariah could be on her way to earning her 17th #1 hit. "Don't Forget About Us" earns greatest gainer/airplay honors once again to surge 7-2 on the Hot 100. Amazingly it does so without the aid of digital sales but that will all change on the next chart. Currently "Don't Forget About Us" seems assured a top ten entry on Hot Digital Songs and possibly a #1 debut. If that does occur Mariah is all assured her 17th #1 and it would be one for the history books because it would tie her in second place with Elvis Presley among all artists, a truly remarkable feat. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

One #1 that is in the bag is another R&B #1. Of course Mariah's last #1 on this chart was "We Belong Together" which tied the all-time record for weeks atop the R&B singles chart. Mariah is also #1 on the Hot Digital Songs chart but not with one of the Mimi singles. "All I Want For Christmas Is You" advances 4-1 giving Mariah her first chart-topper on this new chart. Of course what is especially impressive is that this is not just a holiday song but an eleven year old holiday song to boot. Of course with these kind of sales and a ranking of #3 on Hot 100 Recurrent Airplay (a new peak), "All I Want" has no trouble staying atop Hot 100 Singles Recurrent.

As if that isn't enough news about Mariah singles there is some worthy news to report about "So Lonely". While it falls on the Pop 100 it does debut on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart at #25. All indicators seem to be that this will be promoted as a song from Twista's album with yet another song being released from the Mimi album. Don't be surprised if the Hot 100 chart becomes even more crowded with Mariah singles.

Merry Christmas and Mimi continue to sell well and remain in the top ten of the Top Pop Catalog Album chart and Billboard 200 respectively. Clearly Mariah is going to be a popular choice among gift-givers this holiday season.
