Mariah collects her 17th #1 hit

Yes it's official. "Don't Forget About Us" climbs 2-1 becoming Mariah's 17th #1 hit. This means that the Beatles are the only act to have more #1 hits than Mariah Carey. Mariah is currently tied with Elvis Presley in second place. "Don't Forget About Us" is the second #1 from The Emancipation Of Mimi following the record-breaking "We Belong Together" which was recently named Hot 100 Single of the Year by Billboard Magazine. Therefore Mariah ends the five week reign at #1 of Chris Brown's "Run It!" which incidentally is still #1 on the Pop 100.

Unlike "We Belong Together", "Don't Forget About Us" manages to snare the top spot by overtaking both the airplay and sales chart. The last #1 hit by Mariah to be a #1 airplay and sales hit was "One Sweet Day". With "Don't Forget About Us" debuting at #1 on the Hot Digital Songs chart, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is forced down to #2. This is yet another record as no artist has had the top two best selling digital singles in a given week.

And yes there are other Mariah chart news this week besides "Don't Forget About Us". Greatest Hits, which has been doing well on the R&B/Hip-Hop Catalog Album chart for most of the year, finally enters the top ten on the aforementioned chart. A bulleted move to #9 gives Mariah two albums in the top ten as Merry Christmas holds on to the #1 spot.

In the top ten of the Billboard 200, Mariah makes a bulleted move to #7 and right behind her is Kelly Clarkson whose year-old Breakaway re-enters the top ten. Eminem's Curtain Call remains at #1 while Carrie Underwood matches her previous peak of #2 with her debut effort Some Hearts.

And of course on the Hot 100 Mariah is sitting pretty at #1 with her latest #1 hit. Future #1 contenders include Nelly who moves up to #3 with "Grillz" and Beyonce who surges up to #8 with "Check On It" featuring Slim Thug. Meanwhile "Shake It Off" dips to #41 while "We Belong Together" manages to hold on yet one more week at #50 in its 38th week.
