Mariah's carry-on with Vin
Only last month, American songbird Mariah Carey was bemoaning the lack of action in her love life. It seems she got her wish for romance over the festive season, with the pop princess spotted on the knee of action hero Vin Diesel. The couple were together in the resort town of Aspen just before Christmas, partying at night and spending their days on the slopes of the US winter playground for celebs.
It was, according to the mouthpieces for both stars, a chance encounter for the pair that led to some discussion over "future business". But the town was rife with reports that Carey, back in the US top 10 with her comeback album, Charmbracelet, and Vin Diesel, star of the year's surprise hit, XXX - were burning the midnight oil to seal the deal of their new professional relationship.
"Vin took her to dinner and was canoodling with her," one witness said. "After dinner, they went back to the house she's staying in with her entourage and Vin didn't emerge until the next day." But Diesel's rep denied he was dating Carey. "Vin was in Aspen snowboarding and ran into Mariah. They talked about collaborating on his next film, A Man Apart."
Carey, who still denies a "romantic" duet with selfproclaimed ex-beau and rapper Eminem, also refused to confirm any rumours of a romance, saying she met Diesel accidentally after going to Aspen to rest. Only days before her trip, the dance diva sparked an embarrassing debate after being accused by the Minneapolis Tribune of pulling a "Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct".
Carey wowed observers when she showed up to an interview with a local TV station in a micro-mini - and, allegedly, no underwear. At one point during the telecast, after Mariah crossed and uncrossed her legs, an assistant's arm shot out and tried to pull down her skirt. Moments later, a coat was placed across her lap. "I'm sorry", Carey said. "We didn't know that I was coming to sit up on a platform, or I would have had a little bit of a longer dress." Carey's rep later stated that she was wearing underwear.
