About RibbonB from USA: I love Mariah's Music.

Nattalie (36,403) by RibbonB from USA
I'm not sure what that was, but Nicki is unstable and she needs to go. Idol screwed up this whole process by hiring her in the first place. They have created an absurd mess and it will be interesting to see how they fix this mess.

Lol. I don't care if you have a different opinion. My post also didn't say what she needs to do, because frankly anything can be successful. I also said a specialty cd is a viable creative outlet and they too can be profitable. Mariah has done two Christmas cd's, so there is room for a jazz or gospel cd. My post wasn't about sales, although I do believe that a quality specialty project will do well. If MC wants to do "pop", she will, if she doesn't, she won't. The same with any other genre.

Tony Bennett (36,392) by RibbonB from USA
I just read that Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga are planning to do a whole jazz cd together, ASAP. There certainly is nothing wrong with doing a specialty record. It's a viable creative move. I didn't care for their duet on his last cd though. As for Lady Gaga though, I'm not surprised she is switching up her monster schtick. Her jazz singing style isn't great, but it might work for the two of them. If MC ever does a jazz cd, I hope it's with Quincy Jones for an old school feel with standards, or a modern adult contemporary take with some of the younger jazz musicians, using original songs.

Lol, all I could say was no. But I will wish for the best with this and any future MC song. I have never been an R. Kelly fan, but I do like "I believe I can fly". Other than that his musical contributions are sorely over-rated. I hope he was just singing backgrounds for/with her and that it's not an actual duet. Oh well, at least she used her time in Chicago effectively, doing both Idol and working with the Chi-town native.

Great point on the Christmas classics, but I beg to digger on We Belong Together. That so is so right, IMO it will stand the tests of time. I certainly hope it's records stand. Lol. I was just listening to WBT on repeat yesterday and I love all the nuances and flavors within that one track. Of course thought AIWFC is a perrenial classic.

Mariah doesn't release hip hop tracks all the time. This is just the first single or the buzz single or whatever for a project that is sure to include lovely ballads and mid-tempos. No one can expect Mariah to not have variety. Variety has been her trademark, some people just tend to focus on her big ballads. Remember that with Memoirs, they released Angel's Cry, I Want To Know What Love is and HATE U and neither of those songs hit big, except IWKWLI on the Adult Contemporary charts. Fans should expect a full CD with a variety of songs.

Nikki (36,353) by RibbonB from USA
Mariah has already said today that there is no feud (yet), lol. We already know she and Nicki have worked together before. We can expect lots of silly press stories and theories from now until the show airs and even more when it does hit the TV screen. Comes with the territory.

Lol. I'm with you on that, particularly to defend why I like MC and her music. All that fan wars stuff gets kind of over the top. If people don't put her on a pedestal, they don't have to worry about keeping her on it, or knocking her down when she doesn't meet their ideal or fantasy.

Congrats to Triumphant (36,339) by RibbonB from USA
To MC on her video, for being voted number 1 two days in a row on 106 & Park. I can't wait to hear the ballad that's supposed to be on the way. It's also nice that MC promises to share some new video clips of dem babies bigger than ever, walking and talking. They are so blessed.

BMI/ASCAP (36,334) by RibbonB from USA
Note that these companies do the same thing, it just depends on which of these licensing agencies an artist signs with to monitor their music airplay. They don't affect songwriter credit.

I wasn't even trying to be mean to you, it just seemed as if you were asking such a basic question. But there is no formula to determine percentage of writer credits. It's determined by the co-writers and how they work together. Famous writing teams like Bachrach and David (RIP Hal David) had a distinct way of writing. Bacharch wrote the music compositions and David wrote the lyrics and Elton John wrote music and has had a long time lyricist. Other artists write differently. In today's music industry, many producers make beats and the artist might write their own lyrics and on so forth.

If you are a songwriter as you say, shouldn't you get that clarification from ASCAP? In fact JD and others won major awards for We Belong Together, which did not include Mariah as winner because she is with BMI. She's still a co-writer, but she didn't share in that award. The facts are Mariah has co-written 99% of the songs she has recorded. If you write or co-write a song with others, you will all secure a copywright. If a sample is also used, then those writers also get songwriting credit.

Nikki (36,326) by RibbonB from USA
True. Despite all the negativity towards Triumphant, it is still a viable song and beloved by many. I appreciate that it has so much meaning to Mariah and that time in her life and for her family. She and Randy did a lot of good things to get the song out there. I was very happy to see it at number two on 106 and Park.

Simon is full of crap (36,323) by RibbonB from USA
Lol, Simon practically begged MC to be on his wack show X Factor. She gave him dust and now he's still using her name for press, only now he's being bitchy. What a little ninny. Lol.

Jazz or Gospel (36,322) by RibbonB from USA
I think it's an excellent idea for Mariah to make a Jazz CD. In fact, all she really needs IMO are good songs and great musicians with live instruments and good arrangements. A great Jazz CD would require all of that. MC would have no problem working in Jazz or even better the Gospel genre. It's not a desperate move, in fact, quality is never desperate. Edward, an artist doing music they love or like does not mean they dont want it to sell. Any artist would like to think they can put their vision out there and have it be well received and at it's best to influence music. Those things just rarely sync up for any artist. M has had that and she can again and she can certainly do that with a solid Jazz CD. She did a Christmas CD in her early 20's and we see how well that did. It sells every season and Mariah has the skills to rise to any challenge. In fact, perhaps she needs a good challenge. I'd love for her to do a CD of Showtunes.

BMI Icon Award (36,307) by RibbonB from USA
Super huge congratulations to Mariah for getting her BMI Icon Award for songwriting. Last night's ceremony sounds amazing and I really hope it was taped for airing on tv or at least on the web. The tweets from show attendees were amazing with performances of Hero by Fantasia and Anytime You Need a Friend by Karen Clark Sheard that tore the roof off. There were other great performances as well of We Belong Together. Mariah did that and thank God she is getting her due. She wrote them and she sang them and she got the award, as it should be.

You haven't been paying attention, Mariah's managers hang very close with her. Benny was always there and always in pictures and so was Christ Lighty. The time she was in Brazil he was her constant. Randy has always been around first as her music director and over the years he has contributed and now he is part of her management team. Mariah herself says she is responsible for her business decisions and she has fired management in the past.

Darnell (36,292) by RibbonB from USA
Please have a seat. Slavery has ended. The 90's are over as well. Mariah made the music she felt then and she is making what she wants now. She is not a puppet or a patsy. People need to put on the records they want to hear or just deal with what Mariah is giving now. It's her life and career and her music. None of her managers have written one tune for her.

congrats (36,284) by RibbonB from USA
I think it's cool that Triumphant went number 1 in the UK urban charts. Get 'em. And her perfomance yesterday is getting lots of press, most of it pretty darn good.

NFL performance/MC Jazz singer (36,279) by RibbonB from USA
I loved WBT and ABMB on YouTube. Mariah's voice is still great. I loved her entrance to Triumphant, but that is a tricky song to do live on TV. Rick Ross looked a hot mess sitting in that gaudy chair and Meek Mill sounded washed out. It wasn't a bad song to do in a sports environment and actually came accross a bit better on TV, than it did on YouTube. In good news, Mariah sang some Jazz tunes at the legendary Carlyle hotel after the NFL show. People said she sounded great. I think Randy maybe campaigning for her to finally do that jazz cd.

Pre show/tabloids (36,262) by RibbonB from USA
I hear Mariah will only be performing one song on air and that will likely be Triumphant. I hope it's a good performance. 've also read on twitter that her dancers are in town practicing. As far as tabloids, that's all they do are start mess. There will be tons of dumb stories next year when she is on Idol. Feuds on set, diva demands etc, etc, etc. Truth and tabloids rarely equates.

RIP Chris Lighty (36,216) by RibbonB from USA
Wow, devastating, but confirmed news that Chris Lighty is dead. Supposedly self-inflicted. We never know what anyone is going through. We should all show more compassion and respect for others, especially those we claim to admire. So many demands and so much drama become so petty, especially at times like these.

video release (36,205) by RibbonB from USA
I meant to say Meek Mill and a thousand people in his crew performed the day the video was released.

Meriweatherc86 (36,203) by RibbonB from USA
Regarding radio promo, Mariah did a joint radio/media conference with over 300 outlets at once. It actually was big news and was very effective. She is managing her time and this process very effectively. This song alone is getting more twitter hype than Memoirs got. And it is getting more participation from her dj friends. I am glad Mariah is promoting smart. Meek Mill and his crew peformed on 106 and Park the day the single was released and Meek was there to promote it. Radio adds to rhythmic stations are slowly improving week by week.
