Re: Criticizing Mariah / other divas and fans (83,046) (83,053) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
How helpful is the criticism though, really? I mean I don't deny any of it, I am not a "Yes Queen". person. I'm aware of the changes in the voice, I know there is lipping. I know the vocals aren't what they were in the 90's because I know there is raspiness in her tone now. I know there has been strain. I know she has her difficulties and that the clarity in her voice is not the same as say the Daydream era. But knowing that doesn't change anything. It almost seems at times if people aren't raging angry about it as fans, then the delusional label gets tossed in the mix as if we should all be upset and if not, something is wrong. I love Mariah as a singer an artist and a musician. I care about her well being. But, to me, there are more important things in life. There's a difference between pretending or flat out denying and accepting what isn't up to you. This discussion on her voice will never end. It has gone on for years and will continue to go on and cycle back around to the same topics.

It is hard to watch her struggle at times. Unfortunately, it's out of our hands.

Re: Vegas (82,985) (82,990) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I'm happy she's doing Can't Let Go. She does not do Can't Take That Away, Make It Happen #Beautiful or Lovehangover/Heartbreaker all that often anymore either. She's got to do some #1 hits that the general public want to hear or people in the audience who aren't fans would likely be pissed. Lol. It seems like a summerish setlist to me. Shake It Off, Honey, Fantasy, We Belong Together, My All, Beautiful, Heartbreaker all have summer vibes to me.

Re: Studio singer subject (82,963) (82,972) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Beautifully stated. Having spent yesterday going through live performances from 1990-2018, I can't comfortably stick the studio singer label on her and be done with it. She has had too many incredible stage performances for that to feel right to me. That isn't to say she has not struggled either because she has, but I actually feel it downplays her accomplishments on stage to only call her a studio singer.

Luther is just amazing. I am so glad you had an wonderful time. He and Mariah together, it just doesn't get any better.

Re: Is it a new day? (81,795) (81,801) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
No one is really shocked are they? Many of us have been talking about Mariah's well being for years and being shamed for even suggesting she was dealing with challenges. I do not agree with Morgan's approach I don't feel his motivations had purely loving intentions, but I do acknowledge that Marsh now can be more fully honest. She very clearly has had deep struggles. She deserves compassion just as all humans do. Wish her a smoother road ahead.

Damn. That's fabulous. This is why she is called the voice. Thank you YouTube. Lol.

Aww. I hear you on the Sade concert. She is such a rare performer. I believe there will be another chance. I know what you mean about the years here blurring together lol but we have not had this conversation. I am indeed a fellow Pisces (March 11).

Re: Sade (81,266) (81,267) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I love Sade but didn't get to hear the song. I can't wait. My Latin soul is also very happy as there was a great salsa singer on the voice last night. I am looking forward to seeing what happens for him. Between Toni Braxton, Sade, Marc Anthony and a new Enrique remix in Spanish dropping two days before my birthday, I'm a happy music lover.

Totally Speacial K. Constant scrutiny is a pressure cooker for anyone to live under. There's a very fine line between being objective and cosnstructive and seeing the misery in any situation. It's a tough balance when people become passionate about something.

Makes me smile every time. It is a track that needs to be played at a certain volume. Can't be too quiet.

Re: Our minds work differently (81,013) (81,020) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I think the board needs more humor and Lee can all lighten up a bit and enjoy ourselves. By the same token, although he's not a new member, clearly joining in on discussions and posting messages wasn't routine. Maybe some of the humor got misconstrued for some. I hope it never gets to the point here where we can't be silly and have some laughs, because that would suck. Lol.

Welcome Reuben (81,011) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Welcome to the message board. I hope you enjoy it here. I did chuckle at Edward’s humor, but it had nothing to do with wanting to single anyone out. Some of us have been here on the site since 1822 so it is easy for us to make jokes. Enjoy yourself.

Re: Obsessed (80,900) (80,929) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I agree with you Edward (on Ed) and I am certainly not saying Mariah fans can't be frustrated. I just find it futile, and unfulfilling. I'd rather be happy. lol I think I have almost everything Ed had done in my library, with the exception of a couple of single releases (which are already on full albums). Tried to get tickets to see him last summer, in the city closest to me, but the show sold out in under 5 minutes. One day.

I love Toni and I feel like this song is certainly throwback to her debut album. Never understood why her work doesn't seem to be as noticed. Her voice is so distinct. Beautiful. Glad she's releasing new music, I'll check it out.

Re: Obsessed (80,895) (80,899) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I love Mariah so much, but it would be a complete lie to say I felt the same passion and drive from her as I felt earlier in her career. I don't have my head in the sand, I know she has voice issues, I understand she lip-syncs. I understand why some fans are frustrated or disappointed. Do I want to spend hours and hours pouring over videos to prove when she's lipping and when she's not? No. Ultimately, that's not up to me, I can't do anything to change it, and as much as I love her, I have no control over what she does artistically or on stage. That's why I can't get angry with her. To me, it's a waste of time. None of her choices are up to me, and being angry at her artistry, her motivation (or lack thereof) doesn't change anything except perhaps make me unhappy or miserable - doesn't work for me. I choose to take what I enjoy, and leave the rest. I don't think Mariah is perfect, nor do I think she deserves some of the comments toward her on the daily. When I look at some of my favorite artists especially artists more on the singer/songwriter independent side, like Sleeping At Last, like Kina Grannis, like Imaginary Future, like Coldpay, like Ed Sheeran, yes sometimes I find myself longing for the spark of inspiration, creativity and craftsmanship work behind projects and image for Mariah, I care about her and will always, but by the same token, I don't think accepting what is, makes someone "delusional".
If I really don't like something, I'll say it, or I won't buy a single.

Re: Superbowl, really? (80,826) (80,837) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
People might hate me for saying this, but I just don't think the Superbowl is the type of gig where Mariah would be comfortable. Mariah has an incredible instrument when she's rested and taking really good care of herself, but she's a singer. She's not really known for putting on the type of stage show that the Superbowl asks for. Could she perform there? Sure. But, I don't think the Suerbowl is the right venue for the style of artist Mariah is on stage.

Re: Can't Let Go (80,803) (80,835) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I really really love this song and Love Takes Time, and have absolutely loved listening to the stripped down versions of her catalogue on YouTube. I've thought for years now a stripped down album of songs reminiscent of unplugged, but tailored to what she is able to do vocally. Interspersed with a "storytellers" approach between songs where she offered insights into her writing process for each song would be really lovely. Could be both an album and a live concert. Great way to bring attention to her as a songwriter.
