About Matty from Vancouver Canada: I love music of all kinds, with R&B and pop toping my list of favourite genres. I've been a Mariah fan since Charmbraclet, there was something about that album that connects on a deep level. Other favourite albums are Glitter, Daydream, The Emancipation of Mimi, and Me. I Am Mariah.

My Favourite Mariah Songs are: The Art of Letting Go, Fantasy & Shake It Off.

My Least Favourite album is Music Box.

My most start-to-finish listened album (don't-skip-a-track albums): Emotions, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi and Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

Help Me Make It (89,586) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I have always loved this song. I love Right to Dream, but I like "Help Me Make It" even more. Such a different sound for Mariah, and so complimentary to her voice. This sound sheds light on a different side of her soul and artistry.

Wise Janet quote (89,518) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I think Janet said it best when distinguishing Madonna's brand of "Sexy" from hers. "How do I put this? I think what I do has class to it. I'll say that." - Janet Jackson.

Madonna's take on "sexy" and reviling has a very different execution and slant then Mariah, Janet, Toni, JLo etc. These four women aren't raunchy in any way. Madonna is queen of raunchy without any class. I'm not diminishing Madonna's impact or work, but we can't honestly compare Madonna flashing her crotch and dry humping her dancers to Mariah's cleavage. This isn't at all about age, this is about execution, class and brand of "sexy". Good for Madonna for still giving and her hustle, but her rolling around in a pirate Halloween costume just didn't do it for me despite the neat technology used during the performance.

iTunes it's good to see (89,437) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
It's good to see MC's Greatest Hits and #1 to Infinity compilations, as well as "Hero", "A No No" and "WBT" all back on the Canadian iTunes. It's fun to see how TV appearances effect music sales (and when it doesn't effect the sales, it's a bummer). Again, congrats Mimi on a stellar performance and speech that's getting praise across all media and platforms.

Yas Billboard Babydoll (89,419) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Yes yas yessss Mariah. What an amazing performance and more importantly, speech Mariah gave at the Billboard Awards. That's why she's a legend. Great song selection. Gorgeously classic Mariah ensemble. Hair was full diva. And the message of her speech was perfect and charmingly executed. Mama killed it.

Re: Angel's Cry (89,326) (89,329) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Oddly enough I hear Angel's Cry on the radio a fair bit and have seen the video played a lot in retail stores like Footlocker that play videos in-store. It's like the ultimate slow-burn. The classic Mariah song that never charted. It's an amazing ballad by Mariah, with or without Ne-Yo, and should def have been the 2nd single from MOIA (would have been a more successful following of her predictable formula we were talking about a couple weeks back). I always thought Angel's Cry or Up Out My Face ft. Nicki should have been the second single. If the second single was UOMF, there would have been a very clear vibe to the album as dark, aggressive and a strong kiss off. Going from "Obsessed" in the ghetto to "IWTKWLI" at my mom's office with AC radio playing in the background was an odd single's transition. Even more jarring then the TMB to Bye Bye transition with the E=MC2 era.

Randy, dead. Lol. Me either. Get my attorney on the horn ASAP. But it’s not unheard of in the least.

Re: When You Believe (89,256) (89,263) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I'm really not sure you can compare MyHWGO and WYB just based on the money pumped into each project. We're taking a Dreamworks animated film verses a James Cameron epic. Also "When You Believe" has a massive Christian religious theme woven through it which I imagine would deter a huge demo of the global buying public. MHWGO has a universal theme of love and lost. WYB is more of an "in-the-shower-lip-sync-song" verses MHWGO being a "first-dance-at-a-wedding" kinda song, making it more accessible in a grander sense, if that makes sense. WYB isn't as accessible as "Hero" when thinking about them as empowering personal anthems.

I agree with the point that at this moment Whit and MC we're having a "low moment" compared to previous successes; where as Celine (even tho she'd been around since the '80s in Canada at least), she was a slower burn to success and super stardom. 1997-2001 seemed to be Celine's top 40 cool moment. Before and after Celine always slide more into the Michael Buble realm of Adult Contemporary.

At least it's before... (89,124) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
It's so odd that JLo got BBIA before MC. Although I guess culturally her impact has been massive. Her and Bey seem to be the most beloved general cultural icons almost in history. However, at least she's getting this award now which will be used, I'm sure, to promote "Caution" (like JLo did with AKA, being promoted in 2014). At least Mimi is receiving her award before Madonna, Sting, Britney Spears, Paul McCartney (hello Beatles, 21 #1s on Billboard), Diana Ross, U2, Jay-Z, Eminem, to name a few.

Re: How are singles chosen? (89,103) (89,116) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
TMB, followed by Migrate, followed by I'll Be Lovin' u Long Time (just Mimi, no T.I) and finally I'm That Chick (with a cameo from MJ in the video, playing with the Off The Wall sample) would have been great. All up-beat, no ballads; would have given her a totally fresh approach and reflected the vibe of the album perfectly. The album could have been marketed as a total celebration of life and being on top of the world. I absolutely love the "I Stay In Love" video and ahhhh those ISIL remixes changed workout-life, but the standard version is absolutely the first WBT wanna cousin. Part of the problem with "Bye Bye" was the video. How did we go from an epic cinematic master piece like TMB to the Bye Bye Video? At least the "I Stay In Love" was theater and had that unforgettable car explosion. I love For The Record. I just wouldn't have seen it getting much radio play.

#1 Video on CND iTunes (89,018) by Matty from Vancouver Canada

3. Cool - Jonas Brothers

A No No remix Pt. 2 Shawni (89,017) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Yas, this is a much much much better effort at a remix. They were actually in the studio together, it doesn't sound like a basement-computer cut and paste job, they are in the video being playful together (giving me Nicki and Mimi UOMF vibes), there's the added whistle notes at the end. Agreed, if the beat was a bit harder then the original it would have added an extra bit of oomph. However Shawni really brought it. I love her verses and what she brings to the song. This could be a version served to top 40 radio stations (if her label would ever do such a crazy thing lol). Why did they even bother with the Don version when this version was clearly already in the can before the video was even released? My only guess is that there are one or two more remixes coming with other up-and-coming female rappers, and the concept may be using "A No No" (a female empowerment anthem), as a platform to promote new female rap talent (which Mariah has always done for new talent to pay it forward).

Playtime (88,874) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I was curious how Caution's album playtime compared to previous albums. What's interesting is that MIAMTEC is one of her longest playtimes and then she swings to Caution; her shortest play time (I'm guessing A&R believed a drastically shorter playtime would increase sales and streams).

1. Caution - 38:26
2. Music Box - 42:01
3. Daydream - 46:42
4. Mariah Carey - 46:44
5. Emotions - 47:01
6. TEOM - 50:10
7. Glitter - 51:45
8. E=MC2 - 52:14
9. Rainbow - 55:49
10. Butterfly - 57:19
11. MOAIA - 58:01
12. MIAMTEC - 62:42
13. Charmbracelet - 64:45

It's interesting that MOAIA, MIAMEC and Charmbracelet are seen as Mariah's least popular albums and all three are her longest running playtimes (this judgement on the albums is not my personal opinion, I'm just referring to popular public perception and album reviews from critics, not sales or individual tastes). I guess there's something to "trimming the fat" the ways she did on Caution, as to not dilute the genius of other tracks.

Article: Mariah Carey turns either 49 or 50 today (88,844) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Maybe, just maybe Mariah's true birth-year will be the big bomb shell of her autobiography lol.

"It was a cold day in Huntington New York on March 27 1970, when the winds called Mariah blew hard and the crying whistle tones of an imperfect angle were heard, as a new baby butterfly blessed our world."

Lucky G.M.L (88,829) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Ahhhh I would have loved to be in NYC and seen that performance of Giving Me Life. That will be one of those rare, or will never happen again live concert moments. G.M.L is my favourite track off Caution.

4. Glitter
5. Emotions
6. Caution
7. E=MC2
8. Daydream
9. MIAMTEC

Re: Mariah shades A No No remix (88,728) (88,729) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Hahahahaha that's really funny. So now both MC and JD have expressed disappointment over the remix. This reminds me of when the embarrassingly photo shopped "You Don't Know What To Do" single cover art was released and she chirped it on social media. It makes we wonder though, what does Mariah have to sign off on, and what does her label/management just push through even without her knowledge or consent?

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,717) (88,720) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Doesn't each IP address only count as one "view" or "listen"? I thought each IP address would only be counted once. You can listen to a song on repeat 100 times in a row, but it will only count as 1, because they track that it's coming from the same device.

Re: The remix we all wanted (88,639) (88,647) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Yessss. That is absolutely the remix we were hoping for. Actually remixing Mariah's vocals so it's a switch up form the album version and all. I realized the part of the Don remix that irks me the most is how when Mariah sings "I said..." right before Don raps, Mariah sounds so abrupt cut off. The "I said" isn't a smooth transition to the rap verse at all, the way the lead-in is (I think) intended to be. If the "I said" were sung and the note was held over Don's first line, "Trippin' on 'dis saint, never been a clown", it might actually sound like MC introducing Don to the song, rather then Don just suddenly cutting in. Seeing how well done this fan remix was crafted over the official remix annoys me. Doing an amazing remix in 2019, for a talented mixer in their basement, is not an unattainable feat. They didn't even have to pay this fan to remix it and look how much better it is.

The remix hmmm #112 (88,626) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
First off, I love Stefflon Don. I love her tracks, her dancehall vibes, her spit, her flow. "A No No" is such a sassy, hot song, I expected her to come harder on the track, tbh. Her verse is a good length, but I expected more "exclamation marks" in her rhymes. I was also thinking the remix beat might incorporate a dancehall slant with Stefflon Don's addition. It's a bit of an "I Don't" Remy Ma remix. I can understand why JD went off. I mean when it only makes sense to have Lil' Kim, why not at the very least do Stefflon Don and Kim? Or do a full on women anthem ah la "Ladies Night" with all four women on the track (Don, Kim, Cardi, Missy).

It's doing what it's meant to do I guess. "A No No" remix is #112 on Canadian iTunes which isn't high by any means, but the standard release never appeared in iTunes even after the video was released. I'm glad we got new single artwork. I like the digitized neon letters the title is in.

Anyway; Caution is a fantastic album as is. No adjustments needed on this masterpiece.

Remixes I'd love:
GTFO - Club Mix by Fedde La Grand
Caution - Dancehall mix by Vybz Kartel
The Distance - Club mix by Shrillex
Giving me life - 80's electric guitar remix
One Mo' Gen - Disco Vintage Remix (in the vain of Triumphant vintage remix)
8th Grade - Club mix by Timbaland
Portrait - Full blown live orchestra mix

Mara, I'm so incredibly sorry for the lose of your mother. Your life circumstance at the moment is incredibly powerful. The universe was preparing you and providing you with some light (meeting MC and your mother knowing how happy you were that night), to help you travel through the dark. Your mother will be with you always. Never forget to take notices of all the large and small ways your mother will communicate with you from the new realm she now resides in.

Video view check-in (88,549) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
The "A No No" video is having some steady viewing this week. My guess is it'll be the most viewed video from the album sooner rather the later:
1) GTFO - 7.9M views (uploaded 6 months ago, September 14, '18)
2) With You - 6.8M views (uploaded 5 months ago, October 10, '18)
3) A No No - 2.2M views (uploaded 5 days ago, March 8, '19)

I really enjoy how well all three of these videos flow together, and watching them as a trilogy.

I agree Licia, Everything Fades Away, including my consciousness when I listen to this song. Music Box is already a pretty sleepy album, and I'm happy to put it to bed after All I Ever Wanted.

A No No single art? (88,476) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I wonder if there's going to be new "A No No" single art? Maybe when the remix is released? "With You" single art is one of my favourite ever. Given the fantasic visuals of "A No No" video, they could do a really dope '90's neon themed single art.
