About Matty from Vancouver Canada: I love music of all kinds, with R&B and pop toping my list of favourite genres. I've been a Mariah fan since Charmbraclet, there was something about that album that connects on a deep level. Other favourite albums are Glitter, Daydream, The Emancipation of Mimi, and Me. I Am Mariah.

My Favourite Mariah Songs are: The Art of Letting Go, Fantasy & Shake It Off.

My Least Favourite album is Music Box.

My most start-to-finish listened album (don't-skip-a-track albums): Emotions, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi and Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

True; I'd give Rainbow the prize for [lyrics], and [give] Glitter the prize for beats, flow and production. I think How Much, X-Girlfriend and Did I do That are really jarring in contrast to the beauty of songs like Bliss and After Tonight. I could never choose between Heatbreaker (including remix) and Loverboy (including remix) both songs still thrill me.

"Gimme [your love], cause I want my sugar [daddy], incessantly."

Bill, I absolutely agree with your point about "I'll be Lovin' u Long Time". That song is unbelievable and I'm shocked it didn't go to the top 5 (#58 on Billboard wasn't enough appreciation for such a jam). But to say Glitter wasn't as good as Rainbow is beyond offensive. I don't like Music Box, but I can understand its mastery. Glitter was a masterpiece, a far superior album to Rainbow IMO. Rainbow was a marketing and PR success, the actual music... It's such a hard album to listen start to finish. Most of Mariah's albums I can only listen start to finish. Rainbow and MIAMTEC are the two albums I feel have no flow or smoothness. They are a mish-mash of songs that don't flow or have a vibe imo.

Emotions, Butterfly, MOAIA and Caution are the most vibe centric albums, listen start to finish albums Mimi has produced.

Holy Trinity alternative (101,422) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
What if the Holy Trinity of vocals were: Mariah, Brandy (known in America as the "vocal Bible") and Aaliyah (the ultimate of modern R&B imo)? I've been deep into my Aaliyah and Brandy vinyls recently, and I acknowledge Mariah could mess with Whitney and Celine (those belts are unmatched). However, what instead we focused on Mariah Brandy and Aaliyah and their honey butter delivery and tone? Voice wise.

Thanks for the blasphemy warning, as someone who grew up in cult-Christian environment, I'll take my chances, friend. You have your spirituality, I have mine, and everyone on this board has the right to theirs. This isn't a religious or Christian board, so we don't need to go into warning about what a Jesus joke means. Apologies if I offended your beliefs personally. We don't all subscribe to one spiritual belief, entity or Christianity. With love and respect, I expect the same freedom to my beliefs in return.

BFF, I respect what you're saying, I just don't think we can accuse people of ignoring Mariah. She can be the butt of a joke and she can [also] be praised as one of the few living legends that ever were. I wanna push back a bit on this myth some lambs have that the public doesn't like her or enjoy her; she didn't get where she is based on 1990-1995 fans alone.

Re: The Pitchfork lists (101,386) (101,387) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
What is the "Mariah coolness" you keep referring to? Mariah was damn cool from 1990-1999. then 2005-2008. Then she became more popular then Santa Claus or Jesus Christ. I don't think she's under underestimated tbh. It was never "cool" to like Madonna in Canada, with millennials. Or a prince, yet they are musical geniuses.

Re: The Pitchfork lists (101,381) (101,384) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Fantasy is my [favourite] MC song of all time. It deserves all the flowers. My family knows to play it at my funeral lol (seriously). [People] complain when Mariah doesn't gets her flowers, [people] complain when she does get her flowers. Also, Puja Patel (the author of the Mariah selection) is 33 years old. Most Mariah fans are Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996). Also, Pitchfork has been in publication since 1996, it's not a new publication. So not sure where the bitterness is coming from. Of all 250 songs sifted through, of which competition is very stiff, Mariah came out on top. "It's time to have a [party], open [off] the Bacardi."

Re: Variety article - L.A Reid (101,351) (101,360) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Mariah “lost interest” in promoting E=MC2 because she had just miscarried, which as a newly wed would be heartbreaking for anyone. MOIA was a concept album (and a brilliant one).

What is this mention in the Variety article about L.A Reid currently working with Mimi on her new album? That’s damn exciting.

Re: Global Citizen (101,334) (101,336) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Such an amazing performance. The crowd was on fire, and her voice sounded strong and beautiful. She was also so passionate and really present in the moment. I also loved the ballet dancers, during [Hero] and her speech about women's rights and "butterflies who are thriving in the margins".

Country not Jazz? (101,291) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
What if Mariah did a country [album], not a Jazz [album]? In the vain of "Right To Dream" and the more beautiful song about a "ribbon in her hair she takes out". I only heard it once, before it got removed from the internet but a Willy Nelson style album? Thoughts?

Little Mermaid - Halle Bailey (101,282) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
So the gorgeous star of the new live action Halle Bailey just announced there are four brand new songs on the soundtrack for the film. There were also rumours that Halle and Mariah recorded a song together (which was originally assumed to be for #Butterfly25), I wonder if it's for The Little Mermaid soundtrack and that's the "themed album" Mariah has been talking about.

Not Mystical now (101,159) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica) is one of my top two song on the Glitter album. I was obsessed with the video with the three Mariah's, it was all gold. It is gold, even now and one of her most fun videos. but ... I'm conflicted the way I was when R.Kelly was finally held accountable. MystiKal is facing a life sentence for rape and I'm curious now that at least two of Mariah's collaborators are going away for abuse to women if she'll take down their colabs from streaming (ah la Celine Dion "I'm your Angle") or if she takes the stance of separating the art from the artist? My circle of friends and family discuss this often, art vs. artist. With R.Kelly (who is musically significant) was a known predator in the public conscience since Aaliyah was 15 (and us as a culture made a joke of it), but what about if it's not R.Kelly, and it's a lesser known like MystiKal? Does Mariah react? If someone separates the art from the artist I respect that, and if you think the art is the artist, that's valid to heaven and back as well. Thoughts? I suffer this argument in my own heart with my abuser.

Re: Nicki Minaj thanked Mariah (101,091) (101,093) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I was so excited when Nicki thanked Mariah. That speech and her performance were amazing last night. I always thought their "feud" was manufactured for American Idol. The JLo situation and the Eminem back and forth always made sense, but I believe Nicki loves Mariah, and after all, Mariah gave Nicki her first Billboard charting song, not to mention the UOMF remix should have been the album version. Congrats to Nicki.

Re: If saying... (101,077) (101,081) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Awesome, [we're] on the same [page], Stacey. There's no need to be sensitive when someone doesn't agree with you on what MC's best song is, or if she should sing Hero for the millionth time. But as you said, it's different when you declare Mariah is fat, can't sing, or should just retire because your tired of her output. This [woman] will be around for many decades to come, whether it's themed cookies, a new single, or just simply being the one and only Mariah Carey. She's here to say whether you like her corporate boss woman decisions or not.

If saying... (101,074) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
If saying your "opinion" is that Mariah's voice is shot, she's got nothing left and she needs to retire isn't negativity. Negativity doesn't exist. There's opinions, and then there's negativity. Don't confuse the two.

Re: Nick Cannon (101,054) (101,058) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I'm so embarrassed I wanted Mimi to get back with this guy. Having 10 kids by almost half a dozen different baby Mamas in 2022 is so disgustingly irresponsible when we have 8 billion locus on this planet already. I donno. There is no population shortage on this planet. You're cute Bud, but your seed ain't gold. Mariah must be humiliated. Roc and Roe probably won't even know half their siblings. I think they stopped with introductions after Golden tbh. Nick, dig deep into that narcissism, gluttony and those control issues during therapy.

Re: A bit too much negativity (101,038) (101,057) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Thank you so much for saying this. I haven't posted in a while for this exact reason. The negativity is like everyone's been body snatched by he who was banned and never to be mentioned again. Relax, it's a trademark for merchandise (people are just pressed they didn't think to do it themselves, earlier). Also, enough with this Mariah should retire (she never will, she's a corporation and we're all just a conversation) and that her voice is shot. She just did Master Class and she showed her voice is not shot. Let her use her voice the way she wants and within its capabilities. Miss Love sounds nothing like she once did either. I love how MC uses her voice on Caution, it's beautiful and ethereal. No one can belt like they did in the '90's (not Celine, not Whitney RIP, not even Madonna can sing like she once did and she never had much of a singing voice to start with). Mariah is and will be a Dolly Parton and a Cher, Teflon for life, and omnipresent in Pop culture whatever the time of year.

Re: Bey snubs Mariah (100,914) (100,919) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Aside from the [obvious] Mariah snub, she also didn't mention Mary J., Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle, her co-star and one of only 17 EGOT winners ever, JHug or Donna summer (even with so much disco flavour on some of the tracks).

Re: Bey snubs Mariah (100,914) (100,916) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I think it's as simple as Madonna not liking Mariah, and like you said Madonna saying Mariah can't be mentioned. Like Alicia [Keys] gets a shout out, but not Mariah. Aretha, Mariah, it would have flowed like butter to add Mariah in there. Also, I think it's fascinating that Beyoncé used this [Vogue] sample (it's a sample even though they are calling it a feature, the vocals aren't new). When Madonna is the queen of cultural appropriation, starting with when she stole the vogue concept from the underground ballroom community.

Re: Best breakup album: Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (100,894) (100,903) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Libra, I've always wondered who Memoirs is about. E=MC2 was such a fun happy record, then she married Nick and one year later does a breakup album. I'm guessing some of the vocal cries are brought on by her recent miscarriage at the time, but to do such an amazingly sad and angry album when she was a newlywed always seemed out of step with her personal life.

What sank Charmbracelet? (100,807) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
So Charmbracelet was the album that moved the dial for me from my mom's adjacent Celine Dion/Barbra [favourite] to Mariah is [my] personal [queen]. The question is: what [sank] Charmbracelet?

[I'm] listening to it now on [vinyl] and the only reason I can think it sank was the horrible album art (the worst of all album covers she's done, I don't read what she was trying to convay), and she was introducing us, the public, to her whisper voice.

Aside from the hate in this platform has for "Boy" (which I personally loved blasting, bumping in my [parent's mini van] at 16) the tracks are solid. The songs and lyrics are beyond superior.

So what sank it musically? (Not breakdown [Glitter] sabotage, I'm talking musical.)

Re: Thoughts: which album do you think MC dislikes (100,792) (100,798) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I would have never guessed anyone would have thought MC dislikes Daydream. It seems to me that's one of the albums she is the most proud of. It was the blueprint for Butterfly, which she adores. I could see her hating Music Box. She hates on Hero so much publicly. In concert she doesn't give it much love. I think it's either the debut or Music Box, maybe even Rainbow. I wonder how often she actually listens to that mish-mash tbh.

Ooh. Yes; how amazing would it be if MC re-recorded her first album as an acoustic album.
