About Nikki from usa:

That trend though (97,008) by Nikki from usa
After the MIAM album, there's been an ongoing trend when Mariah releases new music. It's a stand off single that's solely used to promote another project. "Infinity" was to push her residency. "I Don't" was to push her reality show. "Oh Santa" is used to promote her Christmas special.

You'll notice when Mariah's doing an actual promotion like she did for her last true singles "#Beautiful" and last year's "AIWFCIY" she begins promo early and does a lot of it. Last year, Mariah was revving up hype at the end of October. She debuted her new versions of the music video and began social media campaigns on November 1.

Meanwhile, "Oh Santa" debuted on December 4th as a prelude to her Christmas special debut that same day. Delivering a new song this late literally only gives Mariah 2 weeks of play value before Christmas is over. She's not doing anything else to promote the song and it's not easily found on other platforms. Clearly, this wasn't intended to be a new hit.

Just a thought soccer/football (96,664) by Nikki from usa
I was bummed that one of the remixes of Triumphant wasn't on The Rarities album. I recall the board liking the remixes. It doesn't seem dated to me now either for some reason. It still hits hard. It's a shame she couldn't promote it because everyone was interested in this song. ESPN wanted it, BET made the music video #1, but Nick was in the hospital and Mariah had already agreed to film American Idol. It felt like a lost opportunity. I'd like her to dust one of these off and offer it to FIFA as their anthem next year.

She'd could release another album of all her dance/party songs and have Triumphant as the first single. If it does well overseas, and I think it would, she might be able to get back on pop radio in the States too. Her album cover could just be a huge picture of her foot in one of her stiletto's and call it Pump It Up.

Cory Rooney and Pat (96,662) by Nikki from usa
I recall Cory's name. He worked with Mariah a bit at Sony as well as one of J.Lo's "helpers". He defended J.Lo against the stolen sample and acted as if it was commonly used. Mariah was the first to ask for legal rights to sample it which is news that came from its creators in a Yahoo interview from 2001. Cory's name is also in J.Lo's credits as a writer. He would have as much to lose if it was found out that he helped steal the track. Stuff like this may be frequent in the music world, but it's rarely called out on by name. I've never heard Mariah ever mention his name.

I've been collecting pictures of Mariah since 1997. I know Mariah used to talk about calling her mom everyday back then. I also have pictures of Mariah throughout Europe in 2003 with her mom walking in the background holding a cane near Mariah's security. She also accompanied Mariah on Oprah in 2002 to discuss Mariah's childhood and "breakdown". Pat said she called 911 because Mariah had passed out. I don't know who that damage control was for, Pat or Mariah. I'm more bewildered that Mariah gave Morgan millions for his failing business after he tried to Britney Spears her twice.

Ariana, Jennifer, and Mariah's new Christmas song (96,381) by Nikki from usa
This is exciting news. Three ladies on one track. What kind of song do you think it will be? A ballad? Dance track? Pure Pop or an R&B slant? I'm also excited Mariah's Magical Christmas Special is going to be set up like a story. It's been awhile since we heard from Bard Mariah.

Re: Firecracker vs. Cameo Loverboy (96,364) (96,379) by Nikki from usa
The Firecracker sample is more pop which most of this board leans toward. The people who like the original, remake, Cameo version are more likely R&B/hip-hop fans.

Re: Firecracker Loverboy vs Cameo Loverboy vs Remix (96,370) (96,378) by Nikki from usa
I don't know which version Mariah prefers, but I believe she was referring to getting a 48 million payday and out of her contract with Virgin Records. 20 million for Glitter and a 28 million buy out.

Re: Trash (96,091) (96,154) by Nikki from usa
Celine's voice hasn't held up better. She had to get surgery in 2011 for her vocal nodes.

Can Celine sing Mariah's songs? Nobody else but Mariah can sing half her catalog. The more difficult the songs and more frequently sung, the more wear and tear. Nobody has ever called a Dion song "vocal suicide". Singers that frequently use whistle register, historically speaking, only last about 10 years before needing to retire. Singing with the extremes of the voice is going to cause more complications.

How is Dion staying home with her family a comparison to single Mariah having a life? She spent most of the decade not having one for the sake of working. At what point does she get to stop sacrificing?

Mariah wasn't supposed to sing on Divas Live that night. Her doctor had forbidden it. Her chords were swollen. Mariah did it anyway. She didn't want to pass up the chance to sing with her idol. Her views of Celine had nothing to do with the quality of her voice that night. Mariah didn't sing until Aretha cued her to do so which is true of all her performances with older legends.

You guys keep trying to spin your own "petty" narrative of Mariah instead of realizing just how much this truly bothered her. Mariah found Celine disrespectful to someone Mariah adores, so she's going to be bothered by it. The irony being you all love Dion and think Mariah's being mean to her, so you're shading Mariah. Tea? Kettle? How long has this board wanted Mariah to get into the nitty gritty without the fluff? If you want the truth without the sugar coating than why get upset when it's given to you straight?

Re: Trash (96,119) (96,151) by Nikki from usa
Celine is Canadian, Andrew. Whitney would've never done what Celine did that night. As usual, you miss all the details in favor of skimming.

Tell me, how many times on stage have you seen Mariah sing with another artist? Aretha, Patti, Luther? Have you not noticed, each and every time, Mariah does not sing until she's given a cue to do so? She never cuts in unannounced. That is rude, especially when its not your song. Celine was repeatedly obnoxious that night. How did you conveniently miss the fact they were going down the line taking turns singing and she jumped in front of Carole King (you know, the one who wrote the song) and sang her verse for her? She did that earlier that night as well.

Celine didn't just answer Aretha, she had a vocal battle with her. Even when Aretha goes out solo Celine tried to end Aretha's song with her own belt. If that weren't enough, Aretha does an impromptu of "Testimony" which wasn't planned. She cued Mariah to sing than asked the 3 Shania, Carole, and Gloria if they'd like a chance to sing. They weren't given much time to respond since Celine jumped in again. Which is why SNL began doing a Celine Dion skit where Celine sings over anyone singing or talking before announcing "I'm the best singer in the world".

That skit lasted for 3 years, Andrew. Maybe it's time you realize you're a white man from the UK and don't understand squat about black culture or how race is treated outside your country. Then, maybe, you won't feel like Mariah has an "agenda" for how she feels about what she had to suffer through and you don't experience.

Nick's "heaven" (94,693) by Nikki from usa
I didn't hear Nick's podcast, but I heard enough. He was talking about the banking systems and conspiracy theories. The whole system is considered "hell". Banking, corporations, and censorship. Nick isn't talking about suicide, he's talking about leaving the system. Most likely he'll just want to work for himself from here on out. That's the common theme of "heaven" among conspiracy circles.

Re: New Book (94,679) (94,692) by Nikki from usa
Eminem is gay. That's his little secret. That's why he's worried. If you were an Eminem fan you'd know his story changes every time he tells it. He used her for publicity and tried to come out with Superman and claim Mariah was obsessed with him and wanted to marry him. He said they never had a relationship, they just dated, because he didn't think she had it all together. When she said that never happened. He claimed they had a relationship, she needed to admit it, and claimed they had sex. A complete 180. Which is so convenient since that was Damizza's narrative for selling his book that same year. His pictures were supposed to prove they were together. His book came out and he was nearly laughed out of the industry because they looked like fan photos. Lo and behold what does Eminem claim to have, but refuse to prove for a decade? You must not be familiar with his music because he's been a self proclaimed minute man since his debut. Kim has also been saying it since 2000. Nothing new. No man screams from the top of his lungs what a lousy lay he is unless he's trying to hide something he sees as worse. The rap industry isn't open minded, especially back then.

Mariah's memoir (94,591) by Nikki from usa
The title is interesting. I think Mariah's memoirs is going to be more about describing how she feels about the situations she's been through rather than giving a play by play or "dishing" about people. This is about her life, not simply singing on stage. I like how she gave props to her writer and didn't try to ghost it and pass it off as her own. There's a certain authenticity to that alone. I don't think people realize the extent of things she's been through. I wonder how much of this is going to be dedicated to her childhood. She's always nostalgic and brings it up all the time. Even in her music. Introspective songs from "Close My Eyes" to Caution's "8th Grade". She even did a live concert from her old high school in '99. I hope Mariah talks more about her friendship with Chuck. That's got to be wild. You both go to high school together and graduate. Your buddy Mariah becomes the best selling artist of the 90's and you become the school's janitor.

Re: Hopes for the memoir (94,586) (94,590) by Nikki from usa
I think your idea of her career is 1 dimensional. She will forever be the Songbird Supreme. History isn't rewritten and accomplishments undone simply because the person got older. Mariah seems to have moved on with the "breathy" voice people have been complaining about since Charmbracelet. The current generation doesn't know anything about young Mariah. So, it's really the old fans that are stuck on that vocal past. She can still create songs that fit her current voice today. She's still working with a lot judging by all the live accapella performances she's released. Although, today's music certainly doesn't require a great deal of vocal abilities to be successful. It also depends on what kind of artist Mariah would like to be going forward. I never understood why she continued with touring since she's not a performer and it doesn't do much for her. She likes to create, which she should be doing. I don't see Mariah ever giving up making music.

Re: Nick saga (94,412) (94,440) by Nikki from usa
Actually, their prenup guaranteed Nick a cool 10 million in case of a divorce. He's marrying someone in a much higher tax bracket than himself and marrying her would change his lifestyle. By getting him to agree to a settlement before the marriage would prevent him from demanding half in a divorce. The stipulation was they'd keep their own stuff, liquidate and divide up the assets they accrued during marriage, and return each other's gifts.

In the actual divorce, Nick promised to put X amount of dollars into a college fund for the kids while Mariah agreed to pay for all travel and accommodations for Nick and his mom to be present at all holidays plus birthday parties for the twins. That's why there's no spousal or child support. They both seem to be parenting well and taking good care of the twins otherwise.

Nick saga? (94,410) by Nikki from usa
I think Nick may be doing some pre-damage control. I'm not sure how he went from "barely got out alive" to we got married "to have fun". You can have fun dating, marriage is supposed to be a commitment. Although, I do believe Mariah refused to sleep with him unless she were wed. Nick: "So, Mariah, I'll marry you and we can get down, but I'm out the second my good time is over. Cool?" Mariah: "So cool. Hey, would you like 10 million on the way out?"

Somehow, I don't see Mariah making that agreement. Not all marriages last, especially in Hollywood. But, I'd be shocked to see Mariah put so much on the line over a whim.

Re: Ultimate disrespect (94,206) (94,273) by Nikki from usa
No, Ribbon - I just stay with the facts. Packer is wanted in several countries for his crimes and I took the time to read the prenup when it leaked. Yes, he did want to pay her to be his wife and that marriage was to end after she turned 50. Mariah left the boat she and Packer were vacationing on after Packer blew up at one of her assistants in September. The story is still on this site. They didn't talk since, but Packer began leaking stories of their breakup in October.

Licia - if you can't muster the time to read 2 paragraphs than why are you responding to them in the first place?

I'm not sure where the rest are going off on a tangent about James being near her kids since that had nothing to do with my post. After Tanaka broke his leg he made himself useful by helping out Mariah with the kids. He became a nanny. Which is why Stella couldn't get Mariah to get rid of him. The kids liked him. Yet, he wasn't invited to family events for the first year. It's just Nick and Mariah.

Re: Must see Glitter promo video (94,272) by Nikki from usa
Have you not seen Glitter? All that happens. She didn't go with corporate, she dated Dice. That interview was shown and several others. She was on the set when they shot that interview, her hair was still being done. Mariah made over 40 songs for Glitter, but the label decides what's going to make it to the album. It's a shame the Prince song didn't work out, but I imagine it didn't fit with the end result of the movie. I still hope she releases it one day.

Re: Ultimate disrespect (94,175) (94,202) by Nikki from usa
Mariah didn't cheat on James with Tanaka. I'm a bit shocked at the amount of people trying to pass off a reality show as real life. Tanaka was her manny - male nanny. Packer wasn't actually with Mariah in the first place. He was hiding behind her skirts and playing up publicity to hide all the exposure coming out of the crimes he was wanted for. Anyone who actually read that prenup would've acknowledged that it had an expiration date. Their "marriage" would be null and void once Mariah hit 50 and he wanted to pay her 1 million a year to be his wife. He really wanted his previous wife back who dumped him to date Seal.

Mariah was under contract for Mariah's World and James jumped ship last minute. Obviously, Tanaka would become the new lead. It was a month after the show wrapped that he asked her out for real. The kids already liked him and everyone assumed they were dating anyway, but Mariah didn't invite him to any family events or kid birthdays until they were together for a year. Anything is better than Stella.

Re: Mariah's voice (94,177) (94,201) by Nikki from usa
Mariah fans love using weak ass wine as a crutch. She's a Lyric Coloratura and most of them don't have a career beyond their early 30's. What allows them to fly through registers and have near superhuman agility is that their vocal chords are thinner than the average person's.

During the early 30's the voice becomes deeper and elasticity begins to thin. This is why most singers lower the key from the original. The thinning elasticity on already thin chords can be detrimental to a Coloratura's ability to sing. The agility takes a hit and the voice may not be as reliable. Yes, Mariah's singing style is far more difficult and complex than most pop stars. Even verifiable vocal coaches on YouTube mention that.

Mariah has a worse issue because of nodes. I don't think anyone really understands the amount of work and sacrifice Mariah made in her 20's. She didn't have time for friends, family, or hobbies. All she did was create new music and work on her voice. Mariah has never given up her work ethic. You're right, she's not working on her voice and maintaining it as she should. She's too busy working a back to back schedule. She finished up her Butterfly residency in February. She's been quarantined in her NY home since mid March and is approaching her 5th and 6th tribute. She'd get a lot of her voice back if she practiced instead of just resting and working with what she has at the moment.

Re: Carey having a hard time selling tickets (93,553) by Nikki from usa
I'm late to the party on this one, but Radaronline is a tabloid owned by the National Inquirer. It is beyond bizarre to expect a concert leg to be sold out 6 weeks prior to its opening date. In addition, this isn't a "new" residency, it's actually an add on to her original 2 year tenure due to high demand. She sold out at 96%. Mariah keeps getting offered residencies and extensions because she sells. The Palace integrated a new slot machine designed after Mariah and her favorite things to serve as a landmark to commemorate her residency there after her Infinity series. Her fandom likes the slots. The rest of her concerts outside of Vegas usually average between the 80-90th percentile overall.

Grammy chief claims Grammy’s are rigged (93,444) by Nikki from usa
Well, that was an interesting read and something a lot of artists have been saying for awhile. I'm not surprised. Mariah was unfairly thwarted too many times. How does she have the best selling and most acclaimed album of the year but not win any major awards? To add insult to injury, the awards she did win she wasn't allowed to receive during the live broadcast. If 2005 wasn't a year of proof I don't know what is.

MC early works (93,443) by Nikki from usa
I'm not sure what the music scene was like in Europe during the 80's other than Madonna's popularity, but Mariah's debut was an ode to the 80's over here. She covered everything that was popular that decade from Rock to Dance and even a We Are The World kind of song with TGTBAW. She added her flavor with Vanishing and VOL. I'd like to know what singles she wanted to release and in what order for Emotions before those decisions were removed from her. It would be interesting to know how the project would've done without TM meddling. It would be called The Wind. It was such an ambitious project with so many varieties of black music from so many eras.

Re: So Cold (93,432) (93,440) by Nikki from usa
That doesn't make sense though. It's well established no one at Sony was on board with her new look in 97. If Mottola and Walter were on board with Butterfly than there wouldn't have been so much squabbling and Walter wouldn't have fallen out with MC. They weren't on board with her hip hop tracks and Mottola even undermined Butterfly the song by giving it a limited release. Between that song and Slipping Away it appears he has a pattern of not wanting music about their relationship deteriorating made public.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey celebrates milestone birthday in the studio (93,416) (93,439) by Nikki from usa
Everyone lies about their age in Hollywood. It's the timeframe their careers are based on and how they're judged. Just ask Madonna how much she loves the age topic. Eminem and Nicki Minaj were both portrayed as being in their mid 20's when they came out, but both were a couple years older. JLo came out claiming she was 28, but it turned out she was off by a year after she went to jail with Puff Daddy. That's part of their marketing. And, to Bill, everybody lies no matter the religion. In fact, my life experience has shown people who proclaim some kind of purity due to their religion tend to lie and backstab the most. Christians also know "thou shalt not kill" and how many religious wars have we had?

Mariah's benefit contribution (93,391) by Nikki from usa
I hope she doesn't sing Hero. Enough already. This is a benefit concert for people with cabin fever stuck at home. They don't need inspiration, they need a break to cut loose. Since all of you have no faith in her ability to sing anyway, she do better to sing uptempo songs or remixes that don't require over the top vocal acrobatics. I just hope she makes it fun or creates a new song.
