Evergreens (93,078) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
When it comes to the divas, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey, which songs will be evergreens?

I more often hear songs from Whitney Houston and Madonna at sporting events and tv programmes. I most seldom hear a Celine Dion song being played.

I'm afraid that most of Mariah's cataloge is now only listened to by her fans, and that the AIWFCIY is really the only evergreen Mariah has.

But what do you guys think, which songs of Mariah will be played 50 years from now?

Re: What career achievement makes you most proud? (93,067) (93,072) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I broke up with my boyfriend December 2007 and got severly depressed that lasted for months. In april 2008 I was back on my feet again, and Mariah released Touch My Body. It went on to be her 18th #1, and suddenly she was everywhere in the media, and family members called me to congratulate me that Mariah had surpassed Elvis to be the solo artist with the most number 1's.

I bought E=MC2 and it became the soundtrack of summer 2008. Thinking of that time gives me such good feelings.

So I guess Mariah becoming queen of Billboard Hot 100 is the achievement I'm most proud of.

Mariah's voice (92,808) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I do agree that her current voice isn't good. During her Christmas concerts she couldn't hit a single high note, everything was lipped accept lower notes.

But do you guys remember her voice just a year ago, around the time she recieved the Billboard Icon Award? Suddenly she hit high notes an seemed so energetic on stage, she had fun. Was she manic?

Must Mariah be in a really happy place to have the confidence to hit those high notes, or are they gone forever?

A morbid question (92,352) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
If Mariah died today, what do you think she would be remembered as?

Madonna vs. Mariah (92,235) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I have searched all the most popular songs from both Madonna and Mariah on YouTube, and surprisingly Madonna has few views compared to Madonna. Almost all of the most popular songs of Mariah has significantly more views than Madonna's most popular songs.

On Facebook Mariah has more likes, and Mariah has more followers on Instagram than Madonna. Still Madonna is treated as the ultimate female artist of the last decades by the press.

I have read some articles about how gen z look at Madonna as a toxic person and Mariah is treated as an internet delight. The press might favourize Madonna, but the numbers are clear, Mariah is on top

Is it wrong of me? (91,764) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Hey guys, is it wrong of me to feel a bit down about "All I Want for Christmas is You" being Mariah's magnum opus? Whitney has "I Will Always Love You", Celine has "My Heart Will Go On", Britney has "...Baby, One More Time", Rihanna has "Umbrella", Toni Braxton has "Unbreak My Heart".

Is it wrong of me to feel a bit sad that a Christmas song is what Mariah is being remembered for when she has so many great songs?

Love for Merry Christmas (91,635) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
What I love about AIWFCIY and the album Merry Christmas is that it is universally loved. People tend to be polarized when it comes to Mariah, either you hate her or you love her.

My whole family hates Mariah, much because I terrorized them by playing her whenever I had the chance. In the early morning my go to song was the mix of Heartbreaker/Should You Ever Be Lonely, not exactly what my family fancied in the morning.

But, my family can't resist listening to Mariah during Christmas. I gave the album to every member of the family some years ago, and the newcomers in the family has also gotten theirs. If "Merry Christmas" isn't played during Christmas Eve, well, something is missing, even my family thinks that.

Re: Millennials (91,602) (91,606) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
No, Millenials are born in the 80's to the mid 90's, Gen Y comes after that.

AIWFCIY #1 in Norway (91,605) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
AIWFCIY is currently #1 on the Norwegian chart. It's the second consecutive year it hits the top spot, and is the only song of Mariah's that has went to #1 in Norway. Merry Christmas.

#3 (91,561) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
"All I Want for Christmas is You" have returned to #3 on the Hot 100, but I'm afraid that the song at #1 will stay there over Christmas, but I have my hopes for Mariah to get her 19th #1.

Bored as hell (91,524) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Don't nobody here take issue with that Mariah looks bored as hell during her performance of AIWFCIY at Tokyo Dome? I have the whole concert on DVD, it's her best concert of her career, but the Japanese croud is so boring, only cheers after she has sung, Mariah even addresses this during the concert. Either way, watch the whole concert, it's divine, especially "Underneath the stars".

#15 in Norway (91,490) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
AIWFCIY is #15 on the Norwegian chart this week. Last year, the song went to #1, becoming Mariah's first #1 in Norway ever.

O Holy Night (91,471) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Mariah's voice is in a good state as of lately. I have seen plenty of videos from her last concerts, and what I don't understand is why she can't to do a decent live performance of O Holy Night. The high parts with out a doubt are lipped. Yes, she sang the hell out of that song when she was able to. But why can't she sing it like she can with her current voice, why must the song be so heavily lipped?

What a nice build up for Christmas (91,356) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I love Christmas, especially the build up. Christmas eve can be a bit too much for me, so I really appreciate the weeks before Christmas. But I haven't got in the mood this early in many years, I absolutely love the live performances from St. John the Divine, and "Hark the hearald [sic] angles [sic] sing" is the best so far. It's so nice to hear it isn't dubbed that much either like Fantasy: At Madison Square Garden or Tokyo Dome.

Her voice was just divine in 1994, nobody could sing like that or haven't since. Mariah is really treating us fans well this year.

Re: Happy 24th anniversary Daydream (91,002) (91,008) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Haha. That sounds like me, TJ, I played so much Mariah when I lived with my familiy, they all can't stand her. They tolerate Merry Christmas though.

Played on the radio (90,638) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I just wondered which songs of Mariah are usually getting played on the radio in the country you are from?

Here in Norway Mariah is only played on the easy listening stations, and the songs they usually play are Love Takes Time, I'll Be There and Hero. I never hear an urban Mariah song on the radio, but maybe TJ from Norway has.

Subject of Christmas (90,618) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
While we are talking about Christmas, and AIWFCIY possibly becoming Mariah's 19th #1, I have actually listened to another of her Christmas songs lately.

I have gone through the worst struggles of my life the last couple of months, and the song that has helped me through is One Child. That song always gives me goose bumps and lately it has made me cry because it has given me hope. I have listened to the live version in Washington with the Obamas present. It's one of her best permances ever I think.

Mariah is with me in the best of times and worst of times.

Mariah in Ireland (89,689) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
The review in Irish Times is maybe the best review I have read ever. He is calling her the last true solo superstar, what an impression Mariah is leaving behind these days.

I imagine that quite a few critics have noted that she got the Icon Award, and maybe some are colored by that. Either way, and as I have mentioned before, Mariah is turning in to a critics favorite right in front of our eyes.

Re: If septic tanks could sing (89,670) (89,672) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Here in Norway all the biggest newspapers wrote about how awful her performance was. Eurovision is the most watched music show in the world, 200 million watches it, what a time to do the worst performance of your life. It can be compared to Mariah's New Years Eve performance, but I have a feeling Madonna had a worse the day after feeling.

New era (89,671) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
It might be a bit bold, but maybe the Caution era is about people gaining respect for Mariah again. They not necessarily like her music, all though everybody likes her Christmas music, but people don't show the usual hate.

I have a feeling people remember her as one of history's greatest singers, and they know she has broken records. So, people didn't buy her last record, but people who are interested in music somehow know her latest work was praised by critics. Maybe we can call the Caution era the "new found respect era".

Re: If septic tanks could sing (89,661) (89,669) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I do agree with you, actually. I also have more hope for the legacy of Mariah. Her performance and especially the speech showed us that she does music not just for the money, but it's self motivated.

Madonna on the other hand, and without any help, is destroying her legacy. I have talked a bit about this with people I know who don't fancy either Madonna or Mariah, and they say you can age with your career in a classic way or the wrong way. The people I have talked about are amazed how desperatly Madonna has gotten, and how gracefully Mariah is protecting her legacy.

Re: First Mariah item (89,648) (89,655) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
First album I bought was Butterfly, then I bought Daydream from my own brother, after that I got Music Box from a friend, then I bought Heartbreaker as a single, got Rainbow for Christmas. When Loverboy came out I bought that, and was certain when I bought Glitter it would be a smash.

When I went to London for the Charmbracelet tour, I went to a Virgin Mega Store and bought everything I didn't have in my collection. Have bought every single and every album since, except Merry Christmas II You.
