About Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway: Been a fan since 1998, but love most of her music since her debut. Favorite album: "Butterfly" Favorite song: "Always Be My Baby"

Re: Butterfly (87,940) (87,943) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
It's hard not to agree with you, because you write it so straight forward. I do agree with you that the raw, maybe naive artist that was Mariah disappeared after Butterfly, but to say the music and image back then wasn't calculated, is simply wrong. It was even more calculated, trying to white wash Mariah to get a bigger audience, presenting her as a girl next door/innocent girl because nobody gets offended by anything, she was a goody goody. Hey, even the "Fantasy: Live at Madison Square Garden" was carefully choreographed and directed and even dubbed so she would pass as near perfection.

Maybe to you it seems more calculated after Butterfly, but that's because the sense of style also changed generally in the world towards the turn of the millennium, from black/white, grainy and rustique, to more glossy glamour. Mariah took a lot more risks after Butterfly, and even nowadays she is experimenting. Yes, she has turned into a glamour girl all about money and lavish life style, but her early days were calculated, polished, making her turtle neck just right, everything was fake then, besides her songwriting and voice.

Re: A No No ft Cardi, Lil Kim and Elliott (87,920) (87,939) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Yes, I think it's real. I read in an article also that A No No was going to be released the 4th of March

Re: Maroon 5's half-time show (87,901) (87,902) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
After some years of backlash, I actually am tempted to believe that they have to tone the show down. Maybe next year something completely different, and bring a more intimate atmosphere, and then I actually think Mariah could have done a great job. If she rehearsed, or made some pretty good playback vocals, she could bring intimicy with Hero, and We Belong Together, and some energy with Make It Happen and #Beautiful.

Re: Butterfly (87,851) (87,853) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Yes, I totally agree. Even though we can discuss if the style changes that came after Butterfly gave her many new fans, I think that transition in 1997 is what defines her career. And that was what saved her from going into MOR Celine legacy. Mariah's musical transition gave her edge and credibility, and her sexyness in that era is the classiest she's been.

But I also think "Emancipation of Mimi" saved her from being forgotten too soon, and she have become somewhat of a living legend after that.

Critical artice in the biggest newspaper in Norway (87,850) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
In VG, the most read news paper in Norway, there is a very critical article about the concert in Saudi Arabia. There have been alot bad press about Mariah in Norwegian news papers, but it has always been a bit silly. This time around though, it's really bad press.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey wows fans in Saudi Arabia (87,838) (87,846) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Yes, I think it's really strange to think about that she just don't have the disipline to keep her weight stable. I mean, I can, and I think I would have managed also if I was a global super star, especially if I had been so vocal about wanting to be thin.

But then again, she might need meds to keep her bipolar disorder stable, and those kind of meds are influencing your hunger alot. So we might not be so fast to judge Mariah.

Saudi Arabia, after thought (87,845) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I was, and still am, against performing there, because for the most of the people of the world, it shows that Mariah just doesn't care that much.

But after reading the article about the concert, it shows a different side of the subject, and I can some what agree on that.

JR (87,844) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Saying that to a Norwegian, or many living in Europe, is what we think is much of the problem in the US, and sometimes in Europe. Your comment touches the far right rethoric, and I find it appalling.

And I would reccomend you to not be so bombastic when talking about politics in this board. Keep it in the theme of Mariah.

CNN on Mariah's concert in Saudi Arabia (87,821) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
CNN is reporting about activists urging Mariah to cancel her concert. So everybody here thinking it's not a big deal, it's international news now, and it does not look good on Mariah's behalf.

What you are talking about was true in the past. Sami and Kven people even have their own parliament now. Not that you won't find Sami people beeing treated badly by someone today, but what you are saying sounds a bit ridiculous to be honest.

Maybe you should visit the Northern Norway to see for yourself, not just read in the history books. Comparing how Sami people are treated in Norway today with the conditions in Saudi Arabia is preposterous.

Re: Article: Mariah urged by activists to cancel Saudi Arabia concert (87,765) (87,770) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Matthew, I agree with your respond. And for the people her bashing about nobody else not doing anything, I currently work as a community psychologist, so don't assume you know what people do or do not do here on this board.

It will make no difference for the women in Saudi Arabia whether Mariah performs or not. But the symbolism in performing in that country, you can't deny. If Mariah goes through with this, she can just borrow the jacket Melnia wore, "I really don't care, do you?"

Mariah, please, show us you're not completely unattached to this world.

Re: Heartbreaker / If You Should Ever Be Lonely (87,724) (87,728) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I became a fan in 1998 after I heard "My All", and when "Heartbreaker" came out, I was really into Mariah. But I hadn't explored her whole back catalogue, it wasn't as easy then because you needed the physical copies. I loved that remix, and for a long period, that was the song I played in the morning blasting from my stereo. My brother had room next to mine, and my family as a whole was tortured every morning. My family had to listen to Mariah most of the time. That is one of the strongest memories my family have of me growing up, how they all made coping mechanism to survive involuntarily listening to Mariah.

Re: Saudi Arabia (87,704) (87,710) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
The rest of the world considers Saudi Arabia as one of the worst countries to live in when it comes to human rights. That's the despicleble part.

Webmaster: Some of us don't read every single message on this board. I didn't know that "With you" was #6, and obviously the one who wrote the message didn't either. You don't have to shame the person who writes the message. I've seen you write this on the end of a message before. I don't see the point.

So nice to see people her being honest and constructive with their criticism about Mariah after the counter law suit. Look how civilized we are without Anthony.

Re: Article: Mariah looks incredible (87,558) (87,560) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
With all due respect, like most in the industry, she have had some work, but I think the doctors have been brilliant. She has subtle changes without looking like a plastic surgery wreck. There are people both younger and older than Mariah that have "plastic surgery faces". I think Mariah looks really good.

Re: Why doesn't Mariah get tributes like Janet? (87,548) (87,551) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Well, I think most people in the industry feel Janet's career is very much over, and therefore show her tribute. I think it's a good thing Mariah doesn't get that attention yet, because I think people in the industry feel Mariah still have potential for another revival. Wait with the tributes until she has retired. Maybe I'm dellusional, but blissfully so.

Yes, I have every CD and multiple copies of some albums, a lot of singles, DVD's, and a few LP's including all the singles from "The Emancipation of Mimi", a dj exclusive double pack of CC Music Factory remixes of "Everytime You Need a Friend" and "Merry Christmas".

Re: Mariah the living legend (87,412) (87,413) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I totally agree. I have been a fan of Mariah since the Butterfly album, but very soon started to collect her earlier work. Over the years, been a fan for 21 years now, I must say, I also prefer Mariah's early 90s music. But I do listen to her music after 2000 just as much.

If I had been stranded on an island, I would also have brought the first disc of Greatest Hits.

Re: Missing Columbia cassettes (87,396) (87,410) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I have bought only one cassette of Mariah's, and the only reason was so I could listen to Mariah in the car of my summer crush during a vacation in Barcelona 15 years ago. That was the Rainbow cassette.

AIWFCIY #1 in Norway (87,304) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
For the second year in a row, AIWFCIY is #1 on the VG-lista Topp 20, Norway's official music chart. AIWFCIY is the only song by Mariah to have reached #1 in Norway.

Re: Ariana (87,082) (87,093) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I agree with you that Ariana doesn't seem like a nice person. I also want to like her, but it's exactly that, she seems mean and not emphatic. And she is already showing diva behaviour, and that seems a bit early to me.

Mariah have always seemed like a really nice and warm person. Nowadays she is a little bit cooky, but she seems to care for people in her life. It looks like her kids have a really good connection with her.

Re: Caution drops to #163 on Billboard 200 albums chart (87,022) (87,029) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
As I read in one of the articles here, the journalist wrote that Mariah seemed happy and contempt with just releasing new music and comfortable not having hits or commercial success. They seem to want her name associated with good critics and quality, and as a lamb, I'm happy with that aswell. She is still capable of scoring a hit, but it happens with a 24 years old song. Imagine, this song is now as popular at the moment as "Obsessed" in 2009, and next week AIWFCIY will probably get even higher on the Hot 100. I actually think it has a chance to be her 19th #1.

Re: Caution album (86,985) (86,986) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
I agree. But then again, people are pretty tired of Mariah after Christmas. I have noticed that radio channels that ususlly play Mariah's back catalogue, have a long break after New Year, and don't play her before April.
