Subtle Invitation (103,167)

The way MC sings on this song has never been talked about before. It's not her head voice nor is it her whisper voice. She does the same type of singing on GTFO and There Goes My Heart Again. Music majors help me out. Are all three sung in the same key? |

This is the best AI Mariah's voice cover so far. It helps that it is sung in her style. Just made my own Mp3 just in case they take it down. It's simply amazing. We need The Rarities 2 right now. |

First Vision (103,156)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Thursday 10 August 2023; 03:27)
I just realized today that First Vision was never released on DVD in the U.S. I wonder if it will ever be released with some extra live tracks or an extended Patricia and daughter moment. Also, whenever Sony Legacy chooses the time to break our wallets with boxsets and previously unreleased, it is great time for Lambs. Can you imagine all of the early 90s demo songs all on one CD? |

Tommy or no career at all (103,151)

MC never worked with Master P again after that mishap in the studio. Something is just off with her vocals and lyrics. I cringe every time I hear it. I am glad Clown came along on Charmbracelet to remind us what she is capable of when she is focused and works with one of the best and my favorite production duo Dre and Vidal. |

Loverboy (103,141)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Sunday 6 August 2023; 16:29)
The Loverboy debacle was probably the catalyst in MC's decline in popularity. First, who was the Virgin AR executive who pitched the idea to the promotional team to sell the single for 49 cents at retailers. The number one female artist at the time and you have to sell her lead album single for 49 cents to ensure a hit on the Hot 100 because radio airplay was weak. Second, the remix was disorganized with all of the special guests who overpowered MC's own remix. I remember back then thinking that there is too much going on the remix. Third, it was MC's first album lead single to not make it to #1. Finally, the Candy sample just did not hit hard enough as a sample for a lead single. After a couple of listens, you get bored with the heavy beat. |

I think the released version with the "Candy" sample can best be described as an "interesting mess". Critics were right to call it subpar in comparison to Mariah's previous output. The video was fun, but the low quality of the released version definitely contributed to the underperformance of the "Glitter" soundtrack.
The "Firecracker" version is vastly better than the released version. I personally think Mariah could have gotten away with releasing it even with Jennifer Lopez using "Firecracker" for "I'm Real". The original version of "I'm Real" ended up underperforming any way, and that song did not become a hit until it was remixed with Ja Rule.
Mariah still needs to put out remix EPs for the Glitter album singles on streaming. Does anyone know if she's planning some type of "Glitter" anniversary release? |

Tommy or no career at all (103,137)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Saturday 5 August 2023; 20:54)
I often wonder why did it take Tommy to discover MC. She had this beautiful voice in high school and the help of her brother Morgan after high school. Could it be that if Tommy had never been handed her demo tape, that we probably would have never had a Mariah Carey? The world didn't need another Whitney Houston or Aretha Franklin? MC sounded and emulated the both of them at the beginning of her career. It wasn't until her voice started to change in 1997 that we got a very different sounding Mariah and her musical style evolved into what it is today. I think Potrait gave us the full circle Mariah Carey who looked back at her career in a song. Just me thinking that God is not done with MC yet. This woman has bounced back so many times and caught the world's attention again. |

It must be heartbreaking for MC that she can't sing in the studio anymore to record songs for a new project. It has only been 4 years since Caution was released, but man it feels more like 6 years. I am sure there are a lot regrets now about not taking better care of her voice. |

Well Mariah argued her way out of Sony's 10-album deal early. They said albums like Unplugged and #1's didn't count, but she countered as Unplugged charted in the albums chart, as #1's contained new material and new singles. Then they agreed to part with Greatest Hits being the 10th album. Same might be said for the Epic contract. Caution, #1 to Infinity and that All I Want for Christmas Is You compilation for the book were all released through Epic. That makes three of the same logic is applied. Time will tell. |

It became apparent to me today maybe MC's damaged to her voice is irreversible now because of her age and the vocal nodules have enlarged. Who knows maybe I am wrong? However, I feel Caution was probably her last album of new material. |

That Love Story acoustic performance is just beautiful, one of my faves, so short and sweet, forgot about it. Can you believe that was 15 years ago? That was a long time ago. I feel like a different person. Looking back now, an acoustic remake album would've been super cool. And she was still in her 30s. Now she's in her 50s. That's a big difference. Maybe her voice just wasn't meant to last. Maybe she's just enjoying her life and kids and hundreds of millions of dollars now. Personally I'm bored of the Christmas stuff. I loved Caution. I guess that was the last album. I'll go play it now. Never say never. Bye. |

Edward, are you saying MC's career over? She can lower the key to fit her current voice. I wish she would collaborate more with Nashville producers like Tedd T and David Garcia who probably could help her craft different versions of her catalogue or just a new song with her current voice. |

Mariah is definitely not in a good place vocally to accomplish what Taylor is doing while she's still super popular. She should've done something like that back in 2010-2013, but I guess that ship has sailed. This is just beautiful. Had she re-worked some of her hits around this time, she would've come out a winner. Sadly, Mariah can't sing two words straight these days. It is sad, but evidenced by her last performance, it is true. |

Happy 30th anniversary to Dreamlover (103,088)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Thursday 27 July 2023; 23:37)
Was it groundbreaking because of the iconic percussion intro and the almost 1 minute and half dance beat before MC starts singing? Who else was doing what he was doing back in the early 90s? David Morales started the industry to giving club remixes a specific name instead of just calling them the extended version like they were doing in the late 80s. |

Right To Dream is one of my favorite MC songs that never did anything commercially, but it is probably one her best written songs post Glitter era. I really think Willie Nelson really helped MC write a gem. I wish that she would take more chances with other singer/songwriters and not just for a special project or movie. By the way Glitter and TEOM are #3 and #4 for magnum opus. |

Ahem. Butterfly is her magnum opus. Daydream is second. But I would never slam Daydream. It was the first CD I owned by her. Everything before that was cassette. And about banning Andrew. Isn't that request getting old. Kinda like me talking about 1997, Right to Dream and the 2006 Grammy cut and paste job. We are a dysfunctional family. All of us are needed. Terna gets on my last nerve and I would never want him banned or to stop posting. We love everybody. |

No controversial song or video (103,040)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Wednesday 19 July 2023; 21:25)
MC is one of few artists who has never had a controversial song or video. The Obsessed video and song probably would come close to being controversial because she didn't know how Eninem would react to her comedic portrayal of him in the video and the shade lyrics about him. However, she has had many single releases that received a negative promotional plan or very low radio airplay. Can't Take That Away and H.A.T.E.U are on the top of the list for this category. |
