I hope she sounds amazing in December. Terna, we may get WAYC and some special guests in December. I hope she sings One Child with a full gospel choir. By the way, I ordered a CD version of the Apple Magical Christmas special from FYE's Mix and Burn today. |

I am sick of hearing about that damn book and nothing new came from this interview. But I have to admit, once again, she looked amazing, was coherent and likeable. She has really returned to form for this press tour. PS The letter she wrote her younger self was adorable. |

MC said she was hoping that one of her Merry Christmas To All shows would air on TV. Well, the queen got the contract signed at CBS. Mark it on your calendar for December 20th 8pm Eastern time. I am sure the DVD will be released next year. |

Chart question (101,617)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Thursday 10 November 2022; 01:35)
Does anyone remember Columbia's marketing and chart strategy in 1995-1997 to cause Fantasy, One Sweet Day, and Honey to debut at #1 on Hot 100? It had to be more than radio airplay and physical sales. I think back then that new singles were released to radio and retailers on Tuesday. MC only did it during that time only. Butterfly could have done the same thing, but Tommy must have pulled all Butterfly marketing money to lessen the shine on the song's poignant message and lyrics that made him not too happy about his wife breaking free from him. |

New album must unpredictable (101,567)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Friday 28 October 2022; 21:39)
MC's is going to have to release [an] album that [is] different than anything she has done before. It needs to have some sounds that she has never done before. If not, the buying public and radio will not take notice. Also, her new Tik Tok promoting her Christmas shows was refreshing to hear with her current tone. MC can still sing but without the vocal prowess that she used to have. |

I was thinking again today. Mariah and Whitney are the only two female who totally lost their voices. Every other R&B and Pop female artists who have great voices who are still releasing music and performing live can still sing today. Too many to name. I will always believe that the whistle notes, belting, and the one that probably did damage the most to MC's voice is whisper singing. It's sad that I am writing this post. I believe the damage to her voice is irreversible now. We will know for sure on December 11th and 13th at the Merry Christmas To All shows. I will always think about listening to her first two albums haviing fun in 20's driving through East Memphis admiring the huge homes along affluent Walnut Grove Road on my way to classes at The University of Memphis. There was no one like her at the time. Those were the good ole days affirming that I was a fan of Mariah Carey. Only Stephanie Mills had my attention before MC. Stephanie Mills can still sing at age 65. |

Quite. She is the Olympian who can no longer compete. She's spent the best part of 30 years telling anyone who'd listen that she's a songwriter first and prefers songwriting to singing. Well, she may have squandered her vocal gift God gave her, but she still has her songwriting talent. Just hang up the malfunctioning ear piece once and for all and retire with some dignity.
You all have no idea how much it pains me to write this. But I think this may be the last straw for me. I will love her forever, but I cannot enable this anymore. |

Quite. I can put my hand on my heart and say that I could have sang better than Mariah did. Honestly. That is what is really worrying. Someone whose voice was completely untouchable, and as Tommy said when he discovered her, "she is the best singer I have ever heard", to actually being one of the worst singers still performing, is almost incredible. It's so sad to witness. She can live off AIWFCIY's annual royalties, so why does she need the "money grab"? Retire from singing and write songs for others and focus on your other projects. The dolls have stopped dancing now. |

MC has lost singing from note to note with ease and effortlessly. Her notes are forced now because air is not flowing through her vocal cords freely. That's the best that I can explain it. This performance is hard to watch again. I am really worried now about any future studio recordings. Until then, I will play her 1990 VOL Grammys performance instead. |

I'm 100% with you on this Robert, I listen to MCIIY three times more then Merry Christmas during the holiday season. It's an amazing album to put on for hosting events at home, so updeat and fun. I love the lush orchestra. I remember when she first released MCIIY that she said it is Christmas in the city verses Merry Christmas is Christmas in the country. |

The ending is a part of the song and is my favorite part where MC sings in that raspy voice. One reviewer said at the time that even though Mariah's voice is not the same like it used to be, no one can sing with the highs and lows like Mariah Carey. |

This song goes hard in a peculiar satisfying way. It hasn't aged at all and even sounds stronger today. It came on when working out on my playlist and it was a pleasant surprise to listen to after not playing it in quite a while. Just a total bop and fun record, I can see why it went number one. . Funny enough it is one of those rare moments that in hind sight, the video is a perfect match for the song. Haha. Why was that era so short? |

I felt that she was trying very hard to emulate Patti all way with this performance. I think that MC captured Patti's vocal performance and inflections 100%. I really feel that MC's voice now is always best when she is relaxed and singing in her mid-range. I just want her to sing and leave the whistle notes out. |

This is the Mariah I [fell in love with]. That entrance, the raw 100% live singing, husk, rasppiness and all. Then the confidence on stage, not bothering to look pretty nor have good angles for the lighting (notice her exit after that beautiful applause was on her "bad side", no insecurity there). Where did this Mariah Carey go to? Today she really isn't this girl singing here anymore. That line she sings on Candy Bling though, "I'm the same Mimi, fame ain't changed me". Yeah [right] Mariah. Still got love for her though, that will never change. |

Great post Tevin. I think that she said on Twitter Spaces this past summer that more was to come for the Rarities and MC 30. And don't forget about the Jumpsmokers Remix album. I tweeted MC today about the Rarities 2 to include CB to MIAM. MC would really profit and receive rave reviews if she released songs on projects from when she was vocally in her prime. I just want to hear Reaching For The Sky and a high quality longer version on Skydiving. |

So, Matthew what is your opinion as to why MC was never a polished live performer? Do you think Tommy is cause of it because he was afraid MC would become too big too soon? Or was it MC herself whio was afraid that her vocal nodules would cause her to lose her voice after a long demanding tour? The latter is why most Lambs and vocal coaches suspect MC's voice was dramatically different after the Music Box tour. When I listened to MC's most recent WBT perdformance on a CD that I made, I found it be her worst WBT performance ever. I couldn't even compare it to her Mimi's Late Night Valentine's Mix. I would love to know what really happened to MC's voice after E=MC2 someday. It was evident to me that her voice had suffered major damage on Memoirs but she rebounded on MCIIY. |

Not really at all. I wasn't buying too many hip hop CDs and nor watching the charts either. I was introduced to Kanye West in 2004. A co-worker created a CD of The College Dropout for me. I didn't listened to it at all. So, I really never cared much for Kanye at that time and sure didn't know he was a huge hip hop producer. I love his production now. |
