About Jono from USA: Celebrating the greatest artist to ever exist.

Mariah and Busta (73,966) by Jono from USA
They need to drop the track/video soon, and capitalize on it being a banger for the summer. I've played the snippet for my non-Mariah-fans friends, and they love it. It was the same for them with "Migrate". It was the same for them with "You Don't Know What To Do". Please, Mariah and Co., don't drop the ball on this one.

Less is more (73,008) by Jono from USA
I know I'm a bit late with this, but how stunning does Mariah look here? She's so gorgeous that she doesn't always have to be showing off skin in tight hugging dresses. Look I'm all for wearing whatever you want, but there's a fine line between confidence and desperation. I would absolutely love if she went with this kind of look more. It's beautiful.

Re: Adele, just wow (72,607) (72,635) by Jono from USA
I would highly recommend viewing it in its visual, before listening to the album. It's a masterpiece, her magnum opus. So many layers. Really reminded me of Butterfly in terms of seeing an artist at their commercial peak go completely against the grain and release something so beautiful and personal.

Re: Weird era (72,327) (72,340) by Jono from USA
The weirdest moment for me just has to be the superficial image that she's giving. Mariah has always been an artist first and foremost, her work speaks for herself. Now she has all these other things going around her. Not to say she can't venture out and pursue different projects. There's just a lot of silly tabloid fodder out there, some of them orchestrated by her own team, which just makes things look rather cheap.

I Don't (72,013) by Jono from USA
It has potential to be an urban hit, but it certainly won't hit mainstream success. To me this is more of an album filler, not single material. At this point I'm going to sound like a broken record, but they really dropped the ball with "You Don't Know What To Do". To this day, I know non fans who absolutely love that song anytime I play it. That could have been a bonafide smash.

Re: Mariah Carey's legacy in critical condition (70,910) (70,974) by Jono from USA
What I am saying is, she is at risk from suffering similar career trajectories that her friends Michael and Whitney did - brilliant artists in their prime who, in some form or another, lived the rest of their lives in the shadows of their glory days. They say the most brilliant artists are also the most damaged. We may never know fully what happened to Mariah's voice, but we also do know that she's spent the better part of a decade hiding it with smokes and mirrors, and it's beginning to catch up to her. Mariah doesn't strike me as someone who does vocal lessons, hell she rarely does rehearsals and sound checks. You can't, at 46, show up and expect to wing it like you did when you were 20. Your voice has gone through decades of use and natural wear and tear, so you have to put that much more care in to preserving it. What Mariah is doing is just letting everything free fall and resting on her laurels. Yes her accomplishments are staggering. Yes her body of work is unrivaled. Yes I am and will always be a fan. But you can not blindly follow someone who is unraveling without being concerned. As fans, being a "yes" person is only enabling her to continue her bad habits. We all know what MC can do, this is why we became fans in the first place. What we need her to do is get it together like we know she can. Point blank. Period.

Mariah Carey's legacy in critical condition (70,884) by Jono from USA
I've allowed a few days since the debacle to process my thoughts. But basically I have this to say: not just her career, but her legacy is in critical condition. When Mariah had issues in the past, whether they be personal or professional, there was never a doubt that she couldn't sing. All it took was that one hit or performance for people to remember what she could do. But now, the very thing that made her famous is now the very thing that is destroying her. The irony is apparent. She has reached a crossroads in her life where she decides which direction to go. If anyone finds the humble girl who put her music above everything else, please let her know she is dearly missed. I just want to leave this right here, which is interesting considering where we are now with her.

I just want to leave this clip here, in light of everything that has happened in "Mariah's World" the last few years.

Mariah's World (68,876) by Jono from USA
Is not a docuseries. It's a reality show. Mariah the artist is gone. Now all that's shown to the world are cheap stunts, and resting on her laurels. I miss the grounded Mariah that was so invested and in love with her music.

Clash and Complex (64,701) by Jono from USA
Firstly, Mariah looks great. And relax guys, it's just a photoshoot. As artists you're allowed to be creative with imagination. She's not selling herself to the devil or anything ridiculous, it's just dress up for a concept. Some of you are ridiculous. Secondly, I read through both articles and I just want to say how great the interviewers/authors did. It delves in to what Mariah has done as an artist, but also about her as a mother and the different roles she plays in her life. I'm excited to hear that Mariah's World is still on, and supposedly premiering in the fall. I for one don't think it will be a bad move. If anything, there will be these hilarious moments that will be gif worthy on the Internet. And so long as Mariah doesn't resort to being a celebrity, which she's too smart and talented to do, she can harness the publicity and direct it towards her artistic projects. Can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the year.

Met gala (61,785) by Jono from USA
Side topic. I noticed tonight is the Met Gala, and I had never really followed it before, but apparently it's a huge "prom night" so to speak for the biggest stars in entertainment. After doing some research, I found out that it's in NYC. And it seems as if Mariah Carey has never been. Any clue as to why? I would assume she's been invited before, just didn't have the time to go. It'd be baffling if she's never received an invite.

Mariah "meltdown" (61,621) by Jono from USA
Anyone find it interesting that the tabloids have been silent since Mariah has sounded fantastic this tour, but are now covering her again because she jokingly had a "meltdown" over her wind fans not blowing correctly? Typical media, desperately reaching for something to slander Mariah with. Of course most people will fall for the clickbait and think here goes Mariah being a diva again with her demanding requests. Her #1 obsessed fan Wendy will probably cover it on Hot Topics and spin it as her being mentally unstable. Well, if these headlines generate clicks it'll allow more people to check out videos of this tour, thinking they're going to see and hear a hot mess but realize that she actually looks and sounds great. And maybe the general public will notice the date and realize time has indeed passed and it's no longer Christmas 2014.

Re: Jono (61,612) (61,617) by Jono from USA
Fame does change people, and it's something we can never understand unless we are in that unique position. Of course 1990 Mariah is different than 2016 Mariah, they're completely different people. I just don't understand when people complain about her not being the 20 year old version of herself. Now do I agree with everything that this current Mariah does? No. But let the woman live. She's in such a good place again. Criticizing how she should act or who she should be is the very thing that she detested in the mid 90s. And look, as much as we all love Mariah and think we know her, we still only see perhaps half of her, which is when she's in the public eye. We don't know how she's like behind closed doors when the persona drops. And unless you're in her inner circle, it's a bit ludicrous to judge from the outside ("Looking In", anyone?). 1990 Mariah had something to prove, that she was not a Whitney 2.0, and that she wasn't a flash in the pan artist or gimmick. 2016 Mariah has paid her dues, and could retire tomorrow and still go down as the greatest ever. She doesn't need to be anything for anyone. Now the day she becomes a Kardashian and vainly promotes herself with absolutely zero substance, then I stand corrected and you can say I told you so. But she's still doing music and touring (and sounding really good again), and isn't that all we can really hope for? Ditzy diva persona be damned.

Re: Mariah (61,600) (61,607) by Jono from USA
You mean the 46 year old mother of two, a living legend with an established career and has achieved everything she wanted and more, is not the same 20 year old girl fresh off of her first record deal hoping to achieve a living in the music industry? Ok.

Rockefeller Retrospective (61,152) by Jono from USA
Even though this was a brutal time in Mariah's personal and professional life, and if I may say so without sounding cruel, I believe it was necessary. No she didn't deserve all the backlash and hate she got from the performance, but clearly it had lasting effects on Mariah. It was a huge wakeup call that she couldn't just rest on her laurels from the 90s. I think she realized that the very thing that made her who she is, was suddenly at risk of destroying everything she worked for. Fast forward two years later and on this tour, Mariah is sounding remarkable in every sense of the word. I'm not even adding an asterisk that "she sounds good for 2016". No, she just sounds good, period. There were a lot of mitigating circumstances surrounding that infamous performance in 2014, but it was clear that at the time Mariah's voice was not in good shape even if she had done rehearsals/warmups. Whatever she's been doing to return her voice to her glory days, she needs to keep up. She still has many many years left and at the rate her vocal form is returning, I'm excited for future projects.

Watch What Happens Live (60,136) by Jono from USA
I know by posting this I'm only giving her more attention, but this is all I'm going to say. If I were to go to Vegas, I'd see two shows. For vocals and spectacular music: Mariah (obviously). For dancing/choreography: Britney. These two are the best at what they do, and are already iconic and living legends in their respective lanes. That's all.

Ten years ago (59,801) by Jono from USA
The 2016 Grammys just happened (more on that tragedy later), and exactly ten years ago the night of the 2006 Grammys I discovered Mariah. I know I know, I was 16 years late but hey I wasn't born until the 90s and had only stuck to classical music growing up. So I tuned in to the Grammys on a whim, not knowing much about pop music at the time. When Mariah Carey came on, I had heard of her but wasn't familiar with her music (at least, I didn't know these famous songs were by her). I didn't know the songs she was performing, but it didn't matter. For the next five minutes, I was mesmerized. In hindsight, it wasn't the most perfect vocal and yes some parts were lipped, but the passion in her performance soared right through the TV screen. My heart was stuck in my throat. This artist was the first one to ever make me feel something. Chills. Tears. Goosebumps. Everything. The following day, as best as I could in the early YouTube days, I went on a hunt through the internet learning everything I could about Mariah, from her music to her story. I discovered Vision Of Love. I found out All I Want For Christmas Is You and Always Be My Baby were written by her. I marveled at her whistle notes, her low husky notes, her piercing belts, her honey rich tone. I was absolutely hooked. I checked out her entire discography from the library and when two weeks wasn't enough time to appreciate, I decided to purchase them at the record store. And I haven't looked back since. Ten years of being a lamb. Thank you Mariah, for all that you have given not only to music but your fans. The fact that someone like me could "discover" your music and become a fan 16 years in to your career is a true testament to your longevity and artistic brilliance. Through the ups and downs, it has been one heck of a joy ride that I don't regret. Here is to the next ten (and many more).

Re: Mariah singing Rainbow (Interlude) (59,666) (59,669) by Jono from USA
That's what I love about Mariah. There are many other singers who have excellent vocal capabilities, but most of the time I find myself simply impressed by their technique. That's it. With Mariah though, not only does she possess a rare instrument, but she has a way of speaking to you. Her songs go beyond the ears and reach the heart. Maybe it has something to do with her writing her own lyrics and composing her own melodies. But it's a rare gift that I've found only Mariah can do, at least for me.

Mariah and her legacy (58,472) by Jono from USA
I don't think it's a bad thing that Mariah is doing her throwback classics, and possibly opening a museum. I'd totally attend. A museum would be amazing because casual tourists who are curious could come in, and if the exhibit is done well it could really educate them on Mariah's contributions and all that she's achieved in the music industry. Because Lord knows most of these people treat the Grammys as some holy grail and think that just because Mariah constantly gets snubbed, she must not be important. This could expose her work on her terms, as opposed to the press (who also love to slander Mariah). Maybe I just think differently for someone born in the 90s, but I hate most of pop music that's out nowadays and I don't care if Mariah stays away from trends because it would sacrifice her artistic integrity. As someone like Adele proved, if she can just be herself you can still find a market where you're appreciated it. Just because Mariah is doing a museum doesn't mean she's done for. Taylor Swift has one, and she's only 26. So I think it's just a cool interactive space to showcase Mariah and I think it could only be positive.

Re: Article: After 20 years, Mariah Carey is no longer no. 1 (58,459) (58,468) by Jono from USA
Just goes to show you how much the media loves to knock Mariah down. Mariah kills it at the Beacon show and shuts her haters up, barely any press. Mariah is "dethroned" because apparently a playlist has stated that Mariah is now "only" the #2 played Christmas song (after 20 years) and every major news outlet plays out. Mariah is losing weight, has moved on from Nick, is still an outstanding mother, and her voice is improving. They're getting desperate for some negativity.

The snowman (58,303) by Jono from USA
First things first, there is definitely an improvement in Mariah's voice. This is the best she's sounded in a couple of years, and I'm so happy because it shows that she still takes her voice seriously. So did anyone catch the awesome rendition of AIWFCIY here? Mariah sounded great but I think our girl got upstaged by the snowman. He was ridiculous I was laughing so hard.

Re: Can't Say No (58,196) (58,238) by Jono from USA
Absolutely love this fresh spin. How genius is Mariah's melodies? She turned a 1991 pop ballad in to a modern, hiphop/r&b jam. Love that she resang the vocals as well, and the new lyrics fit right in. You know you've had a legendary career when you are sampling your own work.

Re: Mariah Carey at Pier 1 pop-up event (58,160) (58,164) by Jono from USA
I'm telling you, Mariah is gearing up for something big. I love my Mariah no matter what size she is, but when she trims down it's usually for something big (whether it be an album or a TV stint). She is looking fantastic and like I've always said, Mariah just naturally exudes sensuality so she can be sexy even when she's covered up. That outfit is fire.
