That era was everything bad, Mariah had been blacklisted passive aggressively by the industry and written off. It was cool to hate on Mariah, you belonged when you hated Mariah. And everything she seemed to do automatically went wrong. A lot can be said about that time, but I'll keep it brief with just this example of Usher saying in an interview "I'm having a Mariah Carey today" he used her name as an adjective for a bad day. Smh. Grammys (72,648) by Terna from Nigeria I didn't even bother with the show nor performances, Adele as usual swept through the roof with wins as expected (blah). She's still no Mariah Carey, never has, never will. To me the Grammies lost all forms of respect, and credibility the moment they robbed Mariah of her 6 Grammies. Where's Alanis today? Exactly my point, meanwhile the rejected one (Mariah) became the best of the best, a living legend (and the voice of a generation) with a body of work she can firmly boast of as the best that industry will ever see. I love that Mariah Carey (the one I chose and connected to) is still very relevant after 27 years in this fickle, ever changing music industry (here today, gone yesterday, lol) where so many have come and gone and are forgotten. She's still here, still making music, still pressing on and still got everyone anticipating and tongues wagging whenever she announces new music. Fact is Mariah's music will always be looked forward to. It's a cut above the rest. Just enjoy that fact and let go of all that hoopla it poisons everything. (Thursday 9 February 2017; 18:31)

iTunes top 10 (72,074) by Terna from Nigeria To my shock and pleasant surprise, it's sitting preety at number 8 in the iTunes top ten wow. Less than 24 hours after its official release. I Don't (my first impression) (72,009) by Terna from Nigeria The beat is hard, a plus for me already, somewhere in the song I get Rihanna's "Needed me" verses flow, but then it gravitates towards the chorus which in my opinion is the strongest part of the song. I love the I don't scream at the end though. All in all, it's a well put together slow jam and will be an urban radio hit. 19th number 1? Far fetched. YJ needs to hush though he ruins it with that "I know you love me" noise. I still like the song though but come harder Mimi. I'm rooting for you. (Thursday 2 February 2017; 23:24)

And since she's the one who came out of that relationship with deep steming issues, I'll be inclined to believe her much more than anything Tommy has to say. He seemed to move on unscathed. Something changed in her for the worse, that free spirit she had almost childlike is not there anymore and it's traceable to Mottolla. However, Butterfly is also I guess a direct result of that time and also her strongest body of work. (Pain brings out the best in artists. Mary J. Blige anyone? Lol.) It was on Butterfly I got to know the real Mariah, and that was when I connected to her on a more personal level. I'm glad she shook Tommy off. (Wednesday 1 February 2017; 19:39)

Musically and production-wise though, I prefer "Infinity" to "Touch my body" and vocally, she's also more on point on Infinity (that C#5 cuts like steel). If the rumors are true (71,576) by Terna from Nigeria At least she's on point, in terms of having recorded the song, got the iTunes version ready and shot a music video already (Vevo views). When Mariah is in this mode she always wins. I'm guessing it's the song we hear her humming, to this hauntingly beautiful chord progression, with Jermaine at the control board in that rap battle clip when the kids come into the studio. And I play it ever so often just not the whole album. And I would say it's also a classic now. So many people know that song especially the younger generation, even if they don't know who sang it. I noticed immediately that it was recorded without any reverb thus making it sound thin (for lack of a better term). And vocally Charmbracelet was missing her chest/mixed voice. She's either "whispering" or "shouting". No inbetweens. Those were some frustrating days to be a Lamb. But then there came "The Emancipation Of Mimi". Wow, by "We Belong Together" even before the powerful phrasing and final belt, I suddenly exclaimed "she's singing again". Haha and that was just the second track. By "Mine Again" everyone in the room just went "Jesus". Lol. (Friday 20 January 2017; 14:42)

Charmbracelet (71,462) by Terna from Nigeria It's my least favorite Mariah Carey album. Sorry guys but something's off about the vocals, and what's a Mariah Carey album without stellar vocals? It sounds like she's singing under water or suffocating, her bellowing resonating belt is totally non existent, her ease of singing replaced with difficulty (Yours), her main chest voice only makes an appearance on TTR, MSG, TTR reprise and maybe The One. The rest is struggle vocals (Have you heard the full 5 minute version of "You got me"? Horrendous.) and tired borderline irritable whispering. (Thursday 19 January 2017; 18:05)

My guess would be one of these: She gets back with Nick Cannon (far fetched?) we've actually been seeing them together a lot recently with Roc and Roe, or she married James Parker since March and we've all just been strung along for the "breakup" ride. The missing chanteuse (food for thought) (71,334) by Terna from Nigeria What if "Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse" was Mariah's last album? Think about it, something about that album feels like she's saying goodbye or throwing in the towel like f**k it. I'm done with this industry and the disgusting haters and it's been like what? Four years since its release. Also the expression on her face on the deluxe edition totally rubs me the wrong way. It's no secret how the industry killed Mariah's spirit with all the envy, and conscious efforts to downplay her achievements. And seeing how she has embraced touring and live performances. Kelly Price (71,170) by Terna from Nigeria You know how Mariah works with Crystle sometimes, well I was wondering if she's considered collaborating with Kelly songwriting wise (just for old times sake). Kelly penned K. Michelle's "Not a Little bit" from last year and it's easily one of the strongest R&B records 2016 had to offer and that vocal just wow. Jazzmine Sullivan too would be a good choice too. I love her melodies, lyrical phrasing and delivery, quite unique. I would love to see what they come up with. (Wednesday 11 January 2017; 21:51)

This isn't Ukmix nor a general forum for just anyone to come spew rubbish. This is a Mariah message board and as such there should be a certain level of respect towards her even when offering your "opinions" seeing that you're here because you identify (one would want to believe) as a fan of hers, because let's face it we're all on the outside looking in on her life and career. It's all speculation. So there's a problem when certain folk come on here with their "constructive criticism" which is borderline insultive, degrading and just straight up hating (no one is fooled when you see a blatant hate message you know) , all the while tagged as a "strong opinion".
