About Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa: Music lover.

Re: Brandy collab / Skrillex (97,959) (97,967) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
I would still love an all duets album. I feel like if she chose the right collabs it could garner enough attention for her to release a solo album within months of releasing the duets.

I would love to hear her with Brandy, Daley, Babyface, H.E.R., Maxwell, Jojo, D'Angelo, Ariana, Faith Evans, Tevin Campbell, Daniel Ceasar, Gallant, Khalid, to name several. There are so many great singers that she would sound amazing with. I'm still shocked that we never got an En Vogue/Mariah collab. I've never heard her mention them, nor them her. I always thought something amazing could come from that session.

Mimi, abundance, etc (97,928) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Hey lambs, it's been a minute. Thank you webmaster for keeping this space enjoyable at all costs, your last message was a refreshing relief. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels more inclined to post now.

Can you all believe what our girl gave us in 2020? The live snippets, the at-home concerts, mashups, encouraging words, MC30. And then she drops the memoir. The memoir to me, was a backdrop to her music catalogue. So much of it was written in the same vein as some of her music. How often to we get to see the person behind the music, in their own words, while they are still young yet so accomplished? Her struggle is real and I loved the memoir so much. That said, the writing and live reading process had to be immensely healing for her, she's even said it herself. There is no way that this healing wouldn't affect her art. I cannot wait to see what she writes about in her new songs and music. And even better, she has been resting and healing her instrument. I can't even. She is on fire in a whole new way, a slow burn, and I can't even know what to say about it. She's been growing up again and I'm so here for it.

And then there was The Rarities. I love this set so much. The music is great, so cool to hear her float through the back hallways of so many of her eras passed. The closure that it brings to a chapter(s) of her career, the celebration, the reveals, it's just so good. And the black and white cover makes it seem as if it's ancient history, a timeless masterpiece.

She is an artist anew for MC16. I have a feeling she is reinventing herself for this new era. I just really wanted to acknowledge how much she shared and gave and created in 2020. She seems full of life and love and grounded in a whole new way.

This board has been a gem in so many ways. We are music and art enthusiasts. We just like having a space to dive in deeper and appreciate the intricacies of her music that the casual listener doesn't notice. Let's keep this space as special as it is.

Agreed. I'm listening to Invincible right now.

Re: Cover (97,497) (97,533) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
I would love to hear her cover Butterflies or Heaven Can Wait by MJ.

But my first choices for a new cover would be either Here, The Dance, or Dreamin About U all by Prince. The latter has an arrangement that is ready for her brand of vocal layering. Pink Cashmere would be another great one to hear her take on.

Re: Last Night a DJ Saved My Life - songs about Derek (97,382) (97,410) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Oh and In the Mix is totes about her and DJ.

Jk. But it's such an underrated bop. It would be even better without the crowd of kids, but it's still a jam. Cute throwback moment or the theme song to a 90s sitcom starring Mimi that never happened. It deserves better than the opening credits of mixed-ish.

Thanks for that link, I loved that version so much more than the released version on Miamtec.

WBT Mimi's Late Night Valentine's Mix extended (97,395) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Wow. To take a masterpiece and expand on it is bold. But to do it and have it sound like it should actually be the original is almost unheard of (from my listening experiences at least).

It's as if the song has a new meaning to her now and she translated it into a brand new piece. I love it so so much. The last 2.5 minutes are absolutely incredible and it tells a whole story with just sounds and adlibs. The piano is so powerful. The final minute in is just stunningly mesmerizing.

I felt like I was listening to her in a jazz bar. I am so here for an album of her favorite MC tracks reimagined.

I think Giving Me Life is the 3rd installment of The Roof/ Lullaby/ GML trilogy. I'm going to make this playlist, thank you.

Sigh. I would love to hear it out at a club. In my city we have a long-standing Madonna-Rama, Britney, Janet, Beyonce, even Kylie night. But I've yet to hear about a Mariah night. If only.

I completely forgot about that. I did read it back then. And I remember controversy around it then too. Thanks for this reminder, I'm going to dig it up for a fresh read.

Re: The duets (96,175) (96,213) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Yes, I love this idea. However we will definitely need the Make It Last remix of TGIFY as well. And maybe a duet version of ISB with Brenda K Starr?

Jade, thank you for this. You are one of my favorite posters, always real and with well-rounded communication. I could not agree more about literally everything you spoke on.

I also agree that Bill is a glowing light on this board. Hopefully most of us can continue to discuss and share thoughts on her amazing body of work that is ever-growing and really bask in all the treats she's put out for us this year. This board doesn't have to be as divided as it's become.

I just wanted to send you a shout out because I'm so glad you shared your thoughts and perspective here when you didn't have to.

Re: The duets (96,175) (96,209) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Yes. I mean, if she would actually do a duets album it would only make sense for her to make it an extravaganza. So yes, this 3rd disc is so needed. Even better as a dvd.

The duets (96,152) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
The Remixes
The Ballads
The Essential
The Rarities
... The Duets?

I would love for MC to release a collection of new duets. I'm really interested in the musical side of it, not the sales or to appeal to the kids. I'm thinking featuring great vocalists that she can make beautiful songs with. Here's my 10 track dream:

Mariah & Babyface
Mariah & En Vogue
Mariah & Chante Moore
Mariah & Toni Braxton
Mariah & Tevin Campbell
Mariah & Kem
Mariah & Daley
Mariah & Jojo
Mariah & Brandy
Mariah & Maxwell

I chose vocalists that have a sound that is complimentary to hers in my opinion. Looking at this lineup, I'm guessing it would be mostly slow to mid tempo songs and I'm so cool with that.

I would love to see some you all's ideas of a duets album with Mimi, I chose 10 songs but an EP works too.

Song replacements (96,134) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
If you were able to replace a track that made it onto an MC album with a Rarities track from that same era, what would it be? You can do as many as you'd like, I'll choose 5:

Music Box
Replace: I've Been Thinking About You
With: Do You Think of Me

Glitter
Replace: Twister
With: Out Here On My Own

E=MC2
Replace: I Stay In Love
With: Cool On You

MIAMTEC
Replace: You're Mine
With: Mesmerized

MIAMTEC
Replace: One More Try
With: Lullaby of Birdland

Re: Next single from The Rarities (96,117) (96,133) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
This is a hard question. The part of me that wants her to go in the jazz direction wishes she would release Lullaby of Birdland to jazz radio. But as far as mainstream single release I would go with Cool On You and Do You Think of Me. (Adult R&B radio would eat this up. Quiet Storm anyone?)

Re: Trash (96,114) (96,128) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Um. idk where you are getting your info from but this is completely false. The "rule" was a way to keep anyone with black lineage as inferior to "pure whites". Articles on the history here and here. There's plenty of legitimate information out there on this. Please educate yourself before making ludicrous claims in a public space.
