About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

London Daydream Tour Attendee.

Re: Hark The Herald Angels Sing live (57,349) (57,352) by Bill from the UK
I love that performance. It was from December 1991. Lots of people say it was later due to its appearance on Merry Christmas in 1994. But, the hairstyle is that of the "Can't Let Go" video, which was out in late 1991. In Christmas 1994 when promoting Merry Christmas her hair was longer and curly and consistent throughout. Also, Billy T Scott is conducting the choir. He worked as one of Mariah's backing singers for the first couple of years but they never worked again after the Emotions era. Also, as we all know, the Merry Christmas version is interporlated with "Gloria (In Excelsis Deo)" and is a completely different arrangement.

Re: "Songs in the moment" (57,157) (57,158) by Bill from the UK
I went through a phase recently of playing Without You on constant rotation. Normally I just listen to it as and when it appears on albums and compilations, but I had my singles I put on my iPod playing continuously. They were a great set as the first CD included Never Forget You and a live version of Dreamlover from the Thanksgiving special, and the second CD had the ballads Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time and I'll Be There present. Just a really great collection of tracks across the two releases.

Re: Never Forget You (57,133) (57,135) by Bill from the UK
Sorry to hear your sad news Mara, I hope you're okay. I always thought Never Forget You was about somebody that died too. I always get affected by the line "I should have said I loved you, why didn't I just tell you". Fifteen years ago my sister-in-law died from cancer. I loved her dearly and never once told her. That line resonates with me so much because of that. It was a few months after her death, the song was playing and it just hit me. The line "you just vanished away" also hits me hard. It's so simple, but so true. Love to you all.

Re: First time JD worked with Mariah (57,116) (57,119) by Bill from the UK
Hey Norman. Nothing wrong with syrupy schmaltz in my opinion either lol, I didn't know how else to describe Babyface's production style. Never Forget You is one of my faves from Music Box and I have loved all three songs Mariah has done with Babyface (Melt Away and When You Believe the others). I've long been hoping for them to reunite and work their magic once more. Sorry if my post came across as anti-Babyface, I'll be a bit more careful next time I write something. I love the song, love him, and love his style and their work together. No "shade" intended (gets struck by lightning).

Re: First time JD worked with Mariah (57,110) (57,115) by Bill from the UK
Yes, Babyface produced Never Forget You. But JD remixed the song for the single release (the radio, extended and instrumental versions were remixed by him, removing all the trademark Babyface syrupy schmaltz).

Re: First time JD worked with Mariah (57,097) (57,104) by Bill from the UK
He did indeed remix Never Forget You, but I don't think they worked together on it. Mariah didn't re-sing any vocals. ABMB was their first collaboration together.

"I was but a mere fetus awaiting my destiny of mighty Lambhood." Single handedly the best sentence I have read all week.

Daydream (57,008) by Bill from the UK
Happy 20th Daydream. It is a tremendous album and a real highlight in her career. I was almost 12 and had started secondary school. I was at the peak of my love for MC, and I remember being disappointed that I'd have to wait a week for my birthday before I could hear the album. The day of its release, I walked home from school to find that my lovely mum had got it for me as an early birthday present and it was taped to the porch door so I would see it as I headed down the path. I have never ran so fast in my life haha. I was ecstatic and overwhelmed to have it before my birthday. I played it non-stop for the rest of the year. Literally the only album and music I would listen to. It captivated me on first listen, and still does twenty years and thousands and thousands of spins later.

Re: Mimi L / Mariah and Madonna (56,961) (56,970) by Bill from the UK
Haha, you can use the forbidden term freely because you're not one of the fans who over uses it. I'm pretty sure Mariah has said a long, long time ago that the reason she wasn't allowed to be called "Mariah" was because of Madonna. I think I read that in Chris Nickson's biography but I can't be too sure now. I love you too Mimi L.

Re: MC and JD on Twitter (56,952) (56,953) by Bill from the UK
Baby, I often enjoy your posts but I do think you have talked yourself into believing Mariah is the queen of shade. She can't mention any celebrity now without it being dressed up as "shade" (I hate that term). From what I (and most of us) see, Mariah is a kind, funny, care free, genuine and pleasant soul. The only time she's ever really dissed someone was her Madonna comment back in the 90s ("when she used to be popular") but even that was probably unintentional. Even her J Lo "I don't know her" comment was a genuine comment saying that they had never met, and she of course didn't want to discuss her.

Re: "Fantasy" 20 years later (56,866) by Bill from the UK
I agree B, it was a great article and MC certainly deserves way more credit and respect for how she has changed the face of popular music. It's plain as day that, despite what they all say, every female singer of the last ten or fifteen years wants to be Mariah. They emulate her singing style, her various looks, the genres she operates in etc. Mariah will always be the best because she was one of the last genuine artists to descend upon us. When she arrived nobody sang like her, looked like her, or did what she did. It was genuine, she was unique. She is very much "often imitated, never duplicated". So true.

Shade (56,812) by Bill from the UK
Am I the only person getting annoyed by the overuse of the term "shade"?

Re: Mariah's impact (56,741) (56,755) by Bill from the UK
What a great post. I remember back in 1995 when the Fantasy remix came out just how left field it was at the time. This was (caps) Mariah Carey (end caps) with Ol' Dirty Bastard. A literal "WTF" moment from everybody. This was the girl who we witnesses running through fields in jean shorts and flannel shirts and wearing long elegant evening gowns whilst singing about heroes and dream lovers. It came completely out of nowhere, and it was brilliant. It is single handedly the most important recording she has ever made.

Re: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (56,663) (56,667) by Bill from the UK
Yes there are two versions. The original was included on the international release of Merry Christmas back in 1994 (outside US). The second version surfaced on the Dual Disc edition that was released about ten years later which also included all the videos, the Santa Claus Is Coming To Town remix and the beautiful St John the Divine version of Joy To The World.

Re: Really? (56,508) (56,510) by Bill from the UK
Mariah isn't even overweight, so these spiteful comments are redundant. She looked amazing at the Hollywood Walk of Fame event. She's had two children and isn't 23 anymore. All I'm concerned with is Mariah finding happiness and continuing to share her talent with us.

Was it the Chucky Remix? If not there were two acapella versions that are on YouTube as well. I adore the mixes for OSD, they were beautiful.

Re: Vinyl #1 To Infinity (56,418) (56,422) by Bill from the UK
You do see the vinyl for Butterfly around but it is so expensive. Same with the original #1's. I'm pleased to have Daydream on vinyl as that goes for a lot of money now too. Too scared to play it though haha. Hopefully my #1 To Infinity will arrive soon.

This is a great message Norman. Unfortunately several members here make it all about themselves, but if you know who to avoid you can still have fun here. There are some really dedicated, intelligent fans with a lot of insight and some really balanced comments. Those fans are "lighting a ray of hope for me".
