About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

London Daydream Tour Attendee.

Re: Say Somethin' (56,387) (56,393) by Bill from the UK
This is a great message Norman. Unfortunately several members here make it all about themselves, but if you know who to avoid you can still have fun here. There are some really dedicated, intelligent fans with a lot of insight and some really balanced comments. Those fans are "lighting a ray of hope for me".

Re: Lost (56,364) (56,371) by Bill from the UK
I agree in part, as much as I love Mariah's recent efforts, there was a particular elegance that came with Butterfly because it was, at the time, the most genuine record she had ever made, and I'm sure we'll all agree on that point. It was a perfect blend of her show stopping ballads with some hip-hop flourishes incorporated gracefully into her signature R&B. It worked because it was sincere.

Re: Giovanni (56,274) (56,277) by Bill from the UK
I remember when Infinity debuted, the Webmaster wrote a post asking fans to "like" it if they loved the song. It got 200+ likes. I enjoy the song, I think it runs deeper than face value too, but that could be me just over analysing the song. But I tend to ask people of Giovanni's ilk the same question which often goes unanswered, why post on a Mariah fan site if you don't like anything about her anymore? To me it makes no sense. I just don't get it. Invest your time in something that brings a smile to your face, not a frown. You'll get wrinkles.

Re: New album (56,221) (56,222) by Bill from the UK
That's an interesting direction, but I don't think it's Mariah's sound or what she herself would listen to and enjoy. If she was to change musical direction I would imagine it would be more towards a jazz kind of vibe. The improvised TGIFY at Vegas was a step in that direction, as well as her great rendition of Don't Explain during the Elusive tour. In fact, I would absolutely love to hear her revisit some of her older material in the same style and manner that she did with TGIFY. That is by far and away the highlight of each show in my opinion and she always sounds fantastic and completely nails it every time.

Re: Article: 25 Years of Mariah Carey (56,161) (56,162) by Bill from the UK
I felt the same Carlos reading that closing statement of the article. Never before has Mariah's influence and pioneering career been summed up so concisely and eloquently.

Re: Emotions (album and song) (56,122) (56,126) by Bill from the UK
I agree, Emotions is vocally breath taking. The whole album is so broad and the ballads so atmospheric. It is a beautiful, understated and underrated release and one of Mariah's best.

Re: Rolling Stone/Telegraph (56,025) by Bill from the UK
LC, as usual you said it perfectly. I saw the list on Twitter and knew Mariah would not feature because of the magazine's unfathomable determination to not recognise her talent and achivements. History will of course tell a different story. Facts are facts and the truth won't change with time. Rolling Stone just has no credibility for me. Regardless of what the magazine's in-house view may be of Mariah, to deny that she has written 17 number one songs, made the only worthwhile contribution to the Christmas song cannon in the past twenty years, written songs that have reached global audiences and influenced an entire generation after her, is just moronic. Years ago when she ranked #79 on the 100 greatest singers list, it was insulting and you could tell she was included grudgingly and because she had to be. Just bad journalism through and through.

Re: Album/single artwork (55,951) (55,958) by Bill from the UK
My favourite album artwork is either Music Box or Merry Christmas. My favourite single artwork is Always Be My Baby followed very closely by Without You.

Walk of Fame (55,901) by Bill from the UK
I still can't get over how stunning MC looked at the Walk of Fame ceremony. Have you seen her pictures on Instagram as she's getting ready? She is an absolute vision. Also, those clips on her IG of her behind the scenes for the Infinity remix gave me My All remix vibes with the look she had going on.

Yikes. Makes me appreciate the original even more.

Thickriah (55,683) by Bill from the UK
Whether you meant it as an insult or not doesn't really matter. Calling her Thickriah is just plain disrespectful and rude. You can compliment her curvier figure without coining a childish and immature name for her.

Mirage_Nunez (55,671) by Bill from the UK
Thickriah. Are you serious? It is very mean-spirited, hateful and hurtful to call her that. You should be ashamed of yourself. Imagine how poor Mariah would feel if she ever read that. Please send us a picture of your perfectly proportioned body in your next post.

Wonwon (55,615) by Bill from the UK
I see what you mean, but Mariah doesn't need to try to make herself relevant anymore. She had so much success in the 90s, plus her comeback in 2005, that the mention of her name alone is always with the context of all that she has achieved. MC is not at a point where she needs to be #1. She's done that (boy did she), now's the time for her to just make the music she loves. RnB flavoured with hip hop, gospel numbers, urban balladry. As you say, it is all great stuff and her last album was fantastic. I wouldn't change it at all. If Mariah suddenly hooked up with David Guetta and Ed Sheeran in order to try and get a hit, it would be contrived. I would sooner, were Mariah to have another #1, that it is a sincere song written by her and not just something thrown together with a fad producer's name tacked on. She has never done that before and has always put the music first and remained true to who she is, which is a great RnB vocalist who trail blazed her genre. A meteorite that lit up the sky.

Re: Songs that most hate but I happen to love (55,446) by Bill from the UK
I know To The Floor doesn't get much praise here. It's actually my most favourite song from Emancipation. It sounds so slick and the minimal production makes it sound so open and free. It really is the peak of the second half of the album in my opinion.

1 Mariah song (55,434) by Bill from the UK
Well this is nigh on impossible for me to answer. I've been sitting here going through her catalogue thinking about which one song I would choose. So many come to my mind, but I think it would be All I Want For Christmas Is You. Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without it. It has so many great memories for me, everyone across the globe loves it, it has one of her most committed and dynamic vocal performances ever, and it will probably be the one song of hers that people will remember her for, long after her and our time in this world is over.

Never Forget You / Babyface (55,405) by Bill from the UK
I have been listening to Music Box lately, specifically Never Forget You. What a gem of a track this is. I've never understood why MC and Babyface have not worked together more than the handful of times they have. Each collaboration has been magic. Melt Away, When You Believe, Every Time I Close My Eyes. Beautiful, elegant, classy numbers and real jewels in Mariah's crown. Never Forget You is just so mesmeric. The silky, syrupy production, those glorious tones that Mariah and Babyface's vocals make on the chorus together, the sad and heart felt message, and of course those incomparable runs and ad-libs Mariah goes into at the bridge's end and beyond. It's a song that I never want to end and a real highlight of the album. I hope they work together again soon.

SC and LC (55,366) by Bill from the UK
SC, she's mixed Someday up with the song "I Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" by TLC. They go great together. LC, thank you for sharing that TGIFY performance, it was incredible.

Just a side note to say I appreciate the Majora's Mask avatar. Huge fan of the franchise but personally more a Link To The Past man myself. Anyway, back to arguing about James and Nick.

Haha, it is to me (exclamation mark). I remember I almost ejected the CD and threw the whole album out after that song but thankfully "The One" and every subsequent song from Charmbracelet managed to redeem it for me. I still can't understand how the same mind that composed "Vision of Love", "All I Want for Christmas Is You", "Fantasy" and "Vanishing" also came up with "Boy (I Need You)". When "The One" was dropped as a single and replaced with "Boy", the whole album wept. I think Charmbracelet is still angry with Mariah over it haha.

Flabbergasted that nobody has mentioned the monstrosity that is "Boy (I Need You)".

The Wind (55,198) by Bill from the UK
I've never heard that it was a planned single. I did read that the fourth single from Emotions was due to be And You Don't Remember, but the idea was shelved after I'll Be There and the Unplugged concert took off. But what do I know? Let's get back to talking about Ariana.

Nikki (55,141) by Bill from the UK
I think the first planned single from Emotions was in fact "You're So Cold", at least according to Mariah's official biography and numerous other sources. You are correct though in that the album was originally titled The Wind, which I think would have been cool as Mariah was named after the song "They Call the Wind Mariah". Not sure why Emotions was picked as the album title, perhaps after the success of the song, or indeed because the themes of the songs on the album themselves cover a range of emotions across their subject matter. Love, gladness, sadness, faith, anger, mourning etc.

B (55,134) by Bill from the UK
Actually, the line "and I dream the impossible dream when you and I are alone" from Money is more likely to be a reference to the very well known song "The Impossible Dream" made famous by Andy Williams. Lyrically, it doesn't work in the same context for it to be a reference to the song "The Impossible" from Memoirs, and Mariah has never said it is a reference to that song, so I'm not sure where you got that from. "The Impossible Dream" is a very uplifting song about fighting for what you believe in, and given the context of Money being about love being stronger than material items, it makes more sense that's she is singing about her dreaming that her and Nick are together fighting for what they believe in and fighting together against their enemies etc.
