Mariah Carey cries in emotional "American Idol" ad

Mariah Carey sheds a few tears during the audition phase of "American Idol". In a new ad released Wednesday, Carey talks about the judging experience as previews from actual auditions roll on, showcasing at least two hopefuls.

"I didn't have a show like American Idol. I waitress-ed and did all the other things I hear a lot these contestants talk about doing. I always sang and I always wrote. It's just having that ambition. You really can't let go of your dreams," Carey says in video below.

Smiling at one contestant that clearly has talent, Mariah says things like "I know that people are going to love you" and "I felt every single word you sang". While many contestants are talented, there is one man that made her cry. "When I see that, it's like that person has it," she says.

With Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson, "American Idol" is due to premiere in January on FOX.
