Mariah Carey has not been caught in a "satanic sex shocker". Outrageous claims are spreading in the tabloids and online, but Gossip Cop is told the wild allegations have no merit. We can bust the reports. The contentions originate with sister outlets the National Enquirer and RadarOnline, with the latter blaring on its website, "Mariah's satanic sex shocker! Carey in kinky cult bent on bloody animal sacrifice." The headline is deceptively worded to mislead readers into thinking the superstar is currently involved with a "kinky cult". In actuality, the bizarre claims are tied to the singer's pre-fame childhood. It's specifically alleged that as just a kid, Carey "participated in bizarre sex rituals and animal sacrifices conducted by a satanic cult", led by her mother.
A so-called "family source" is quoted as saying, "At a very young age, both Mariah and her sister, Alison, were involved in the ceremonies and participated in them." In an attempt to back-up the assertions, the publications supposedly interviewed Alison herself, who has been estranged from Carey for years. She alleges to the tabloid and site that their mother took them to a "castle" on Long Island, where "satanic rituals, led by my mother, took place". She claims, "I remember people wearing hooded cloaks, standing in a circle and chanting. There was also sexual activity and (animal) sacrifices, which the participants believed would please the deity they were there to worship."
"I was trained to run 'The Group'," Alison asserts, although it's never explained what that means exactly. She is further quoted as saying, "At first, as a small child, I would not understand what was happening, being forced to watch as a struggling animal was violently killed in front of me." It's unclear if she was paid in exchange for this "bombshell interview", but it's noted she is "flat broke and living in a halfway house in Upstate New York". And RadarOnline has been peddling similar versions of these claims since at least 2016, the same year Carey's sister was arrested for prostitution.
For example, a 2017 headline on the blog exclaims, "Satanic rituals and sex abuse claims - Mariah Carey's estranged sister to spill all." The National Enquirer ran a similar tale around the same time. At no point, however, has any reputable outlet reported anything credible to substantiate these kinds of allegations. Now a Carey contact is dismissing the strange contentions, even telling Gossip Cop, "Her sister has lost her marbles." In addition, a rep with whom we also spoke maintains this suspicious, years-old narrative is untrue.
Less scrupulous sites, like The Hollywood Gossip, are nonetheless regurgitating the unsupported claims. The outlet acknowledges Alison "may not be the most reliable source", and urges, "Let's take her claims with a grain of salt." Yet the online publication still saw fit to copy, paste and spread the questionable information, anyway. That is exactly how the web gets flooded with fake news.
