ET exclusive: Mariah Carey's 911 call

Entertainment Tonight is breaking the news today that Mariah Carey's mother made an emergency 911 call last Wednesday night to the New York State Police. ET examined the police blotter, which revealed that Mariah's mother Patricia was requesting medical assistance for her daughter.

Headlines today in a London tabloid claim that Mariah tried to take her own life, by cutting herself over a split with her boyfriend, Latin singer Luis Miguel. But Mariah's spokeswoman told ET today there was absolutely no suicide attempt. "Mariah did break some dishes and glasses and may have cut her foot in the process, but she definitely did not hurt herself intentionally," Mariah's spokeswoman said.

Mariah's representative also told ET today that Carey has suffered an emotional and physical breakdown, and that she is currently under psychiatric care, resting and improving. She also told ET that Mariah did not officially break up with Miguel, and that he is concerned about her well-being.

New footage of Mariah will air on the Fox Family Channel series "All Access" on August 11. The footage shows a very unguarded Mariah in her hotel room during production of her new movie "Glitter". And more information about Mariah's condition comes to light in next week's issue of US Weekly magazine, on newsstands Friday. In an article titled "Mariah's Meltdown", the magazine says Carey's collapse came as a result of a grueling 14-day, seven-city tour to promote "Glitter".

Shortly before her hospitalization last week, in an appearance on MTV's "Total Request Live", Mariah complained about being exhausted. "I just want one day off where I can go swimming, look at a rainbow and eat ice cream," Mariah said. Viewing the TRL footage, US Weekly magazine's Sarah Saffian told ET, "It was clear she was pushing herself and running on empty by then." Us Weekly also suggests that Carey may have felt threatened by the successful careers of other female pop stars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Lopez. "They could take her fan base away from her," Saffian said, "and that could be trouble for her on top of everything else."
