The AutomaticPrincess.com mystery

I received a curious e-mail from a lamb named Teresa today. In it, she offered her theory about why automaticprincess.com was registered, and what it could mean to us: "Hello fellow lambs. I wanted to let you all know that I entered the sites www.automaticprincess.com and www.automaticprincess.org into my browser and both of them said 'coming Soon' and 'this name was recently registered'. So there may be an AP merchandise site, or it was reserved so that nobody else can take it. Even if it is not designed immediately, it may be in the future when AP has been out longer and is more widely available. Guess we'll wait and see. I'm sure the fans would want to know this so please spread this little bit of info for them to hear. Thanks so much."

It looks to have been Gina Rainville at "MonarC" who has registered automaticprincess.com. The listing for the domain, which was registered in January of 2003, also has a Manhattan address and area code, so it's most likely them. The fact that it's registered doesn't really mean anything just yet. Companies usually register domains they "may" want to use, before they even decide to use them. This is just an effort to prevent people (like fans or cybersquatters) from registering them once they become known to the public.

The "coming soon" page at automaticprincess.com is the standard "coming soon" page present on most domains which have not been put into use yet. It doesn't necessarily mean the page is coming "soon". We're all anxiously awaiting an official AP web site. I think the AP products that are for sale right now are part of a test run. They're probably feeling out the market before they make their official launch. Whether or not they'll put up a web site right away is another issue. I, for one, hope they do.
