"It's Like That" - a Top 40 hit

In only its second week on the Hot 100, "It's Like That" jumps to #36 to become Mariah's 27th Top 40 hit. With a #34 position on the Hot 100 Airplay chart "It's Like That" has done better than any Mariah single since 2000's "Thank God I Found You" went to #15 on said chart (discounting both "I Know What You Want" and "U Make Me Wanna"). And even more impressive is that this is a week reflecting only one day of it being "officially" released to radio outlets. Clearly even better things are expected in the coming weeks for this hit.

"It's Like That" earns its Top 40 status thanks to placements on format specific charts like Top 40 Tracks (#34) and R&B (#32). But again the format that has really supported this single is Top 40 Rhythmic where it jumps up to #19 and earns airpower status. The one format that the song isn't currently charting on is Top 40 Mainstream. Undoubtedly this is the format that has resisted Mariah's recent material the most. To give you some perspective Mariah's last top ten song at this format was 1997's "Honey" (again we are discounting "I Know What You Want"). But it is important to keep in mind that this week's stats reflect only one day of "official" airplay. We should see a debut on the Top 40 Mainstream chart as early as next week.

As "That" makes a large jump on the Hot 100, "U Make Me Wanna" takes a large dive. Previously peaking at #21, "Wanna" now sits at #62 in its 12th week. This can be attributed to its fall at R&B - the format that showed it the most love - where it drops from #12 to #25. On the Top 40 Rhythmic chart the song drops off altogether. It's still performing decently on Hot Rap Tracks where it falls just two spots to #12. "Wanna" may be on its way off of the airplay driven charts but it actually debuts on a new chart this week. Over on the Hot Ringtones chart - yes such a chart exists - "U Make Me Wanna" is a new entry at #28. That chart is currently being led by Snoop's "Drop It Like It's Hot" and features such oddities as Aqua's "Barbie Girl" (#38) and the "Super Mario Brothers Theme" (#10).
