Could we see Mariah in "Rush Hour 3"?

Immediately following the success of "Rush Hour 2", rumors that another sequel was in the works began to circulate. According to UpcomingMovies.com, the first film in the series made $141 million in the United States, while "Rush Hour 2" raked in $206 million. Another sequel was a no-brainer.

In 2003, Variety reported that director Brett Ratner's decision to bail out on "Superman V" leaves him free and clear to direct this next sequel, to be written by Jason Richman. In fact, the Inernet Movie Database (IMDb), the earth's biggest movie database, lists the film's status as being in pre-production. Although the possible plot for the film is unknown at this point, the IMDb reports that filming is set to begin in June 2005 for a summer 2006 release.

There has been a lot of recent speculation as to whether or not Mariah Carey will be attached to this project. Ratner, who directed Carey's infamous "Heartbreaker" music video, is responsible for not one, but two new music videos for Mariah's first two singles, "It's Like That" and "We Belong Together", from her new album, "The Emancipation Of Mimi".

In a recent special on MTV that documented the making of the "It's Like That" video, Ratner basically confirmed that he will, in fact, be doing "Rush Hour 3". Ratner stated, "When it's a Jermaine Dupri record, you know it's going be hot. It's gonna sell a lot of records. It's gonna get a lot of play. So, that's gonna make me hot again. Then when I go do 'Rush Hour 3', I'm going be on top of the world agian, see?"

There are other clues that Carey could be attatched to "Rush Hour 3". Photos of Mariah with actor Chris Tucker recently surfaced onto the internet. Several years ago, Mariah was slated to co-star with Tucker in the film, "Agent 00-Soul". Tucker confirmed the film's validity, as well as Carey's role, back in 1998 in an interview with Well Rounded Entertainment. Tucker responded to a question about his writing credit for the film, "Money Talks", by saying, "There was a script, but I re-wrote it. Changed scenes. Agent 00-Soul is coming up in pre-production. It's like a James Bond kind of movie and Mariah Carey is goin' to be in it. That might be my next actin' movie.". However, the project was later abandoned.

Another indication that Carey might contribute to the next "Rush Hour" film became evident when Carey and Ratner attended mogul Barry Diller's recent pre-Oscar party together. The two were photographed holding hands. Ratner was quick to dismiss any romantic speculation, and told the Daily News that he was simply directing Carey to the food and that he is still dating tennis star Serena Williams.

Lastly, to add to further supposition, a quote from Ratner is featured in the current issue of Us Weekly magazine, where he states "Mariah is the queen of my world." While there are currently a lot of pre-conceived notions about Mariah's involvement with the film, there has been no official confirmation. In ralted news, the IMDb reports that the the makers of the "Rush Hour" trilogy are actually considering shooting the third film, back-to-back, with a fourth film.
