Mariah coming back to the Philippines?

The Emancipation of Mimi has already shipped 90,000 units in the Philippines, enough to be certified three times platinum. The album surrenders the top position as it succumbs to Il Divo's maiden release. Mimi is officially Mariah's biggest seller in the Philippines, matching the massive success of Rainbow which also garnered a Triple Platinum certification for shipments of 120,000 units under old certification rules.

Mimi was released in the Philippines April 5th and debuted below Nina's Live album before eventually reaching the summit as the number one album in the country, Mariah's first number one album since Rainbow. The album's massive success is fueled by We Belong Together which still dominates radio countdowns across the nation, recently topping lists in Wave 89.1 and 99.5Rt to name a few, months after its release. The video is still heavily rotated in MYX, MTV Philippines, Channel V, Link TV, Cube ITV, Morph TV, Destiny TV and PinoyCentral TV.

Universal isn't done promoting the album in the Philippines. They have a listening party for Mimi this coming Thursday, 9PM at the RNB Music Venue in Metrowalk in cooperation with LSFM. It is rumoured that multiplatinum recording star, Nina, who is a big Mariah fan, will take part in the festivities. Free Morph Magazines are also given to fans who purchase The Emancipation of Mimi in select Odyssey stores.

PMCF members have gotten intouch with the concert producers of Mariah's Charmbracelet worldtour stint in the Philippines and they say very cautiously that they are trying to get Mariah back here this January 2006. Nothing is confirmed though but they say Mariah increased her talent fee from the last tour so it may be difficult to bring her back. If ever, Manila will be one of the last Mimi tour stops. Mariah scored her biggest single concert crowd in Manila for the Charmbracelet tour, attracting over 30,000 fans, just before that, Mariah drew 50,000 people in two shows live in China.
