Don't call it a comeback
Comebacks are common in Hollywood. Unfortunately, few are welcome. But like zombies rising from the grave, these attention-starved hacks somehow claw their way back into the public eye. While we're not so bold as to call Mariah Carey a hack, her return to the silver screen is cause for concern.
You might be thinking, "Wait, what return? When did Mariah Carey ever make a movie?" Lucky you - you've apparently forgotten about Glitter, the 2001 fiasco TV Guide called "a butt-numbing exercise in tedium". And that from a magazine devoted to helping you waste time.
Despite Mariah's lackluster filmography, she's giving her second career another go with indie flick Tennessee. Searches on Mariah are up 33% and will likely rise another octave or two following her prime-time interview with Barbara Walters.
Mariah's return got us thinking - what other singing thespians could use a comeback? In 2005 Ashlee Simpson, who we have no problem calling a hack, starred in Undiscovered. Few saw the aptly named film, and we're still waiting for Jessica Simpson's less talented sister to try again. Seeing as Ashlee's searches are down 33% this month, she might want to pick up the pace.
Whitney Houston, another singer-turned-actress-turned-joke, needs a comeback like Pigpen needs a bath. It's been a decade since the troubled songstress has appeared on the big screen. Alas, the once unstoppable diva can't seem to catch a break. Searches on Ms. Houston are down 17% this month, indicating her fall from grace has yet to hit terminal velocity. (Yahoo Buzz Index)
