Jimmy Jam

There is an interview with Jimmy Jam in Keyboard Magazine and they asked him to tell a little about the music he is doing for Mariah's new movie. Here is his answer:

It's called "All That Glitters" and it takes place in the 1980's. It's been fun, 'cause we pulled out all the '80s synths and drum machines: the TR-808, the OB-8, all these old instruments. It's like memory lane for me. But when you're dealing with a film, inevitably someone wants to change something. "Let's slow this down here, change it here," so on and so forth, and that can cause problems depending on how you record. There's one song that we think of as sort of the theme for the movie, and it's just a nice little song - not a big, dramatic thing. But the movie company was like, "It would be great if you could ritard it here, and do a modulation here," whatever. I'm thinking, "I played it all on analog tape, no sequencing, no nothing." See, that would have been so easy if we had done it in the Pro Tools domain. So tonight, after Dr. Dre's concert, we're gonna come back in here and load the track into Pro Tools, and hopefully manipulate it from there.
