Mariah misses out on "Bullwinkle" role, eyes another film

Actress Rene Russo has beaten out singer Mariah Carey for the part of Natasha Fatale in the upcoming big screen adaptation of "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle". Carey, who submitted a screen test in make-up and costume, was one of many vying for the part of the seductive Russian spy.

Though she didn't land the part, and her role in the James Bond inspired spoof "Double-o-Soul" has been put on the back burner, Carey will make her big screen debut in the romantic comedy "The Bachelor," alongside Chris O'Donnell and Renee Zellweger. In the film, Carey plays the part of an opera singer who also happens to be O'Donnell's ex-girlfriend.

As for her other upcoming film projects, Carey talked with MTV News' Chris Connelly about her cinematic plans while on the set of her latest video, "I Still Believe". "You've been talking about doing movies," Connelly asked, "so where are you with that right now?" "Right now I'm just trying to make sure this strap doesn't cut off my circulation," Carey said, referring to her dress. "But there's a script that's being written - I think I talked to you about it - that's being written by Kate Lanier, who has some really great ideas. So, it's going well, and I'm going to get ready to start recording the soundtrack soon."

The project with Lanier, whose previous screenwriting credits include the upcoming "Mod Squad" film, "Set It Off" and "What's Love Got to Do with It," has yet to be titled.
