Estrenos Y Estrellas

Albani Lozada: A few days ago we got a visit here in Venezuela, from one of the biggest music divas of this decade. Mariah Carey came to our country to meet her roots, and "Estrenos Y Estrellas" got the exclusive interview with this great pop diva of the 90's. A short vacation with her boyfriend Luis Miguel was the perfect excuse for the pop diva to visit our country, a thing she had wanted to do for a long time because her family is from Venezuelan ascendence, and the singer wanted to come and meet her roots. Although the time she spent here was short, Mariah wanted to share with us how she felt for being in her grandfather's country.

Albani Lozada: Mariah, you bring to Venezuela a new album titled Rainbow, Arcoiris. You're living a very special moment in your life filled with beautiful colors, like the name of your album. Now, I want you to talk a bit about it, because I know this new production features the works of some great musicians, and also, as an important thing to point out, you wrote all 13 tracks on the album. So, tell us a bit about Rainbow.

Mariah: Well, I did Rainbow in about 2˝, 3 months; a record time to do an album. I was writing songs for my movie All That Glitters, and the release date for the movie was set back and the film won't be out until Christmas 2000, so I decided to do an album. I wrote and produced with very well respected people, that have been for a long time in my life, and I had collaborators which I enjoy to work with. There's a lot of ballads and a lot of R&B, I think there's something for everybody.

Albani Lozada: By the way Mariah, this album has two songs which are already big hits. I want you to talk about both of them which are Rompecorazones (Heartbreaker) and Gracias a Dios Que Te Encontré (Thank God I Found You), and of course about the two videos that represent them.

Mariah: Well Heartbreaker begins the album and it's also in the middle because there's a remix of the song, and Thank God I Found You is the last song on the album, and the album, which can tell a story, has a very happy ending. It's the first album which I can find a happy ending with the last song.

Albani Lozada: Mariah, we know that this visit to our country is not only due to the presentation of your latest album Rainbow, but also a very, very special petition that has been made by your venezuelan fans. Tell us about this.

Mariah: Can I just say I'm very happy to be here because I've gotten many letters from my fans in Venezuela asking me to come, and I felt it was important to come and not hide from my fans but let them know that I'm here, and that's very important for me because my fans are the most important thing in the world for me. That's why I'm here today talking to you, so that my Venezuelan fans know that I appreciate all the letters and all the support that they've given me.

Albani Lozada: We know that you share a beautiful relationship with a very important person in your life, someone that we also love and respect here in Venezuela and that's been here in concerts for a few times, Luis Miguel. What can you tell us... what can you share with us about this relationship that it's so important and special for you?

Mariah: Well, I've tried to keep it as personal as I can because it's something that doesn't belong exclusively to me, but I'd like to say that I'm very happy, he's a very beautiful person inside, and that's very important, that somebody has a good heart and is able to understand the person he or she's with.
