Alleged plane scuffle lands U.S. actor in jail
Actor Terrence Howard was released Friday after spending a night in jail for allegedly grabbing a cabin attendant's wrist on a Cleveland-bound flight when she tried to direct him back to his seat, police said.
Howard could face federal charges for Thursday's incident on board a Continental Airlines from Toronto to Cleveland. Howard allegedly grabbed the flight attendant's wrist and yelled at her to get out of his way when she told him to remain in his seat while the plane's seat belt sign was on, Cleveland Police Lt. Sharon McKay said.
Howard was reportedly taking his 3-year-old daughter, Heavenly, to the bathroom, McKay said. Another passenger assisted the flight attendant, who was not seriously hurt, she said. On arrival in Cleveland, Howard was charged with assault and jailed overnight, but the charge was dismissed when the local prosecutor said he lacked jurisdiction and the incident was a federal matter, McKay said.
Bill Edwards, the First Assistant U.S. Attorney in Cleveland, said the FBI was asked to provide a report on the incident to determine if charges should be brought against Howard. Howard starred in "The Best Man" and appeared in "Big Momma's House." He has been filming a movie in Toronto with Mariah Carey. (The Los Angeles Times)
