Mariah Carey fails to shift concert tickets

All I want for Christmas superstar Mariah Carey caused a recent media storm after videos of her lip-syncing emerged. And following her disastrous performance in New York's Time Square as part of the city's New Year's Eve celebrations, it now seems fans aren't so keen to watch the singer at her latest gig.

After being sold as the headline act for the Dubai Jazz Festival, tickets to see the award-winning performer have been slashed to encourage people to attend. Popular app The Entertainer - which is the Middle East's version of Groupon - have advertised tickets to Mariah's show on February 23 at 50 per cent off.

The Dubai Jazz Festival boasts of Mariah's previous accolades on the official website, along with other singers also performing. It writes of Mariah: "Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival confirms that award-winning singer, songwriter and record producer Mariah Carey, will be performing in Dubai as the headline act for its second night on February 23rd. The 15th anniversary celebration taking place at the Dubai Media City Ampitheatre from February 22nd to 24th has also recently announced the biggest Latin recording artist in music history, Enrique Iglesias, taking the state on its last night."

Other singers lined up to perform include Sir Tom Jones, Nathan Sykes, The Rad Trads and Raul Midón. It comes after Mariah quit social media following her unfortunate NYE performance in New York. After revealing she was left feeling "humiliated" over the performance, which ended with her walking off stage, Nick Cannon's ex-wife removed herself from Twitter and Instagram.

Explaining her decision with an audio clip on Twitter, Mariah declared she would be taking a break from "media moments". "I'm gonna take a break from media moments, social media moments," she announced. "Although I am going to fulfil my professional obligations, this is an important time for me to finally take a moment for myself and to deal with my loved ones and to prepare for my upcoming tour in March." She added: "I can't wait to sing for you again."

Discussing her feelings after the performance, Mariah put the blame on technical issues. "I want everyone to know that I came to New Year's Eve in New York in great spirit and was looking forward to a celebratory moment with the world. It's a shame that we were put into the hands of a production team with technical issues, who chose to capitalise on circumstances beyond our control."

The Touch My Body star added: "Listen guys, they foiled me. Thus, it turned into an opportunity to humiliate me and all those who were excited to ring in the New Year with me. I cannot deny that my feelings are hurt, but I'm working through this and I'm truly grateful for my fans and my true friends who have been so supportive in this time."

As much as I'm a fan of Mariah since the Butterfly era, I really don't believe that Dick Clark Productions would sabotage her performance that night. I mean, they've been doing the the ball drop event decades before I was even born and I haven't heard any invited music artists until now that they were deliberately sabotaged by them just to get ratings and attention.
