Mariah performs tribute to Michael Jordan
At the 2003 NBA All Star game, Mariah performed a tribute to Michael Jordan who's retiring from playing professional basketball at age 40. Mariah kicked off her performance with "Boy" (without Cam'ron) wearing a red jersey and a mini skirt while MJ videoclips were in the background. Then Mariah came in a blue jersey-dress and sang "My Saving Grace" and the last part of "Hero" right after it.
As All-Stars from both teams watched while sitting on the court, the lights were turned off and the familiar Chicago Bulls' intro music - the Alan Parsons Project's instrumental "Sirius" - played. Carey announced, "From North Carolina, a 6-6 guard, Michael Jordan!" Jordan walked to center court, where he was overwhelmed by a nearly two-minute standing ovation from the star-studded crowd. "I leave the game in good hands," Jordan said as he pointed to his fellow Stars. "Now I can go home and feel at peace with the game of basketball." (Mariah Daily and NY Daily News)
