Mariah Carey No. 1 on Australia's Singles Chart

The Christmas bells are ringing on the first ARIA Singles Chart of 2019 as Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" hits No. 1 for the first time and festive classics by Wham, Band Aid and John Lennon impact the top 20. Carey's five-times platinum holidays classic peaked at No. 2 on Australia's singles survey during its original chart run back in 1994, and has been re-entering the chart every December since 2012. On this week's tally, the song rises 10-1 in its 30th week, as Wham's "Last Christmas" improves 18-5 for just its second stint in the top 5 since its inaugural appearance at No. 3 in December 1984.

Also, the all-star 2014 recording of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid 30, featuring Bono, Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran, One Direction and others leaps 37-8 and "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", recorded in 1971 by John Lennon, Yoko Ono & the Plastic Ono Band, bows at No. 14. The single previously cracked the top 10 in the early '70s, prior to the launch of the official ARIA Charts.

The Christmas spirit is felt across the top 50, with seasonal tunes by Justin Bieber, The Jackson 5, Brenda Lee, Paul Kelly, Tony Bennett, Burl Ives, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and more making impressions. On the ARIA Albums Chart, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born soundtrack locks up top spot for a 10th week.

U.S. hip-hop star 21 Savage has the week's highest debut with his second studio set I Am > I Was, new at No. 34. It's Savage's highest solo peak to date, eclipsing the No. 42 for his debut Issa Album and his 2017 collaboration with Offset and Metro Boomin on Without Warning, which reached No.39.
