In 2020, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry's production company, Archewell Audio signed a deal with the streaming service which was reportedly worth $25million (£18million). The podcast received negative reviews with the Times' James Marriott giving it one star out of five and the Telegraph's Celia Walden calling it "just another way she can talk about herself".
According to Meghan: "Over the course of the next dozen episodes, we're going to live inside and rip apart the boxes women have been placed into for generations - boxes like diva, crazy, the b-word, slut. Some of these words - these labels - are harsh; they're abrasive. And I want to get to the bottom of where they come from, why they've stuck around for so long, and - importantly - how can we move past them.”
In the first episode, Meghan spoke with her close friend and tennis champion Serena Williams "about the labels and tropes that try to hold women back". The episode was entitled "The misconception of ambition with Serena Williams" and the women discussed the label of ambition used to attack women.
At the end of the episode, Meghan introduced the celebrity guest who would be accompanying her in the next episode. The Duchess said: "I can't wait to chat with you again next week when we hear from the one and only la la la la la... Mariah Carey! It's a really good one - we'll see you guys next week thanks for joining me. As ever, I'm Meghan."
